Names in Singularity are used in two ways: to name an object (at the "top") and at the bottom of an object to provide an interface to other objects or to the hardware through a common name, much like a named pipe in Unix. In this form, use ALLCAPS. The name must be unique on the system. Names across system take the form of NODE:NAME. Anything sent to such a named.

Names in Singularity must be unique. To make it easier to distinguish, names, like objects, are placed in an ontology. That is, there is a hierarchy of namespaces, much like DNS.

There are 4 primary ontologies:

  • People - User-Nodes, Group-nodes, Knect-node.
  • Objects - Knowledge
These are some preliminary root nodes for the operating system. The root node for People starts with KeepersOfTheBeads(?what is the name for them in Herman Hesse's novel?). Below this is Group
