ClementineSDR Install Procedure

Overview

The equipment and procedures to setup a radio system and contribute to the world wide databases.

The equipment and software can be a general coverage receive radio as dependent on the configuration. Configurations are possible for HF, VHF, and UHF using the same general software. It depend on the receive hardware you implement. Because of this complexity setting up a working radio can be daunting for new participants. This document design to step you through the installation and setup of a HF WSPR and WWV receiver to participate in ionosphere radio prorogation.

The radio system describe here is in active develop yet stable enough to contribute to ionospheric radio propagation science. while the software will work with a receiver as simple as an RTLSDR this receiver uses USB2 which limits the bandwidth that can be captured and the basic RTLSDR does not a way to access a timing signal.

  • Hardware: There are several hardware receivers that can be used with the software. The two requirements for a receiver is the use of USB3 or greater and the ability to inject a timing signal. These allow the receiver to capture 1-30 mHz for the software and know the signal is correct to micro Hz.

The current prefer radio is rx888MKII This radio meets these requirement but you must open case to a time jumper and change the pin switch to external timing signal. This usually require an addictional hole for the SMA of the timing jumper. This receiver runs hot in the provided case.

Procedure to add the timing jumper

Most timing devices such as a Leo Bodnar mini by default 10,000 mHz

The rx888MKII requires a 25,000 mHz signal so you will have to follow the procedure to change the output frequency on the timing device. Additionally, the Leo Bodnar put out too much signal. you will need a 15 dB sma to sma attenator to a level that is compatable.

  • Antenna

Long wire 160-10 mHz
