This page has been created as a guide to starting QMD as well as give a general progression "path".

Each stage also has a few videos associated with it, if you prefer to watch rather than read!

Stage 1: Setting up

Stage Description

In this stage, you'll build the basic infrastructure required to craft and operate accelerators, as well as expand your power and material generation to accomodate their operating costs. By the end of this stage, you should be ready to craft your first accelerator!

Items, Machines, Multiblocks unlocked in this stage

Atmosphere Collector

This is a machine that collects the atmosphere around it. The more air blocks around it, the faster it collects "atmosphere". Produces up to 1,000 mb/t of compressed air at 100 RF/t cost. (default numbers)

Liquid Collector

This is a machine that collects liquids around it. The more liquid blocks around it, the faster it collects liquid.

Ore Leacher

This machine enables you to process ores more efficiently, at the cost of some energy, and sulfuric, hydrochloric and nitric acid (16 mb of each). Each process produces 3 ore dusts and a few byproducts, many of which are essential for access to much of the mod's content.

N-type doped Silicon (N-doped Silicon)

An item required for assembling Basic Processors, component needed for crafting the first tier of QMD multiblock controllers and a few parts. Obtained by irradiating silicon wafers in a fission reactor.

Requirements to progress into the next stage

  • Set up calcium sulfate, all aforementioned acids and boron arsenide chemical chains.
  • Set up hydrogen, deuterium and diborane sources.
  • Increase power production (> 15 kRF/t) and energy storage (> 25 MRF).
  • Obtain many stacks of steel, stainless steel and tough alloy, and some bronze too.
  • Stockpile a decent amount (> 1/2 stack) of byproducts (especially tungsten and titanium).
  • Dedicate an irradiator or two in your fission reactor for N-doped Silicon.
  • Craft supercoolers and a stack of NC machine upgrades.
  • Get at least 1,000 mb of Liquid Helium (LHe)

Stage 2: Basic Multiblocks

Stage Description

This stage includes the construction and operation of the Linear Accelerator, and the Target Chamber multiblocks. By the end of this stage, you'll produce p-type doped silicon, needed to craft more advanced multiblocks.

P-type doped Silicon (P-doped Silicon)

An item required for assembling Advanced Processors, component needed for crafting the second tier of QMD multiblock components, as well as a few parts. Produced by accelerating boron ions in a LINAC, and smashing them against a silicon wafer in a target chamber. Boron ions must have an energy of 500 keV to 1 MeV, and a focus of at least 2. (Default values)

Linear Accelerator (LINAC)

A simple type of accelerator, that accelerates particles in a straight line. Your first LINAC will be used to accelerate boron ions (from diborane) for producing P-doped Silicon.

Target Chamber

A type of Particle Chamber. Target Chambers are used to smash particles against an item target, producing (usually) a different item and 0-3 particle beams.

Decay Chamber

A type of Particle Chamber. Decay Chambers receive a particle and decay it into 1-3 particle beams. Useful for converting particles to other, more useful particles.

Beam Dump

A type of Particle Chamber. Beam Dumps receive a particle and convert it into a liquid.

Particle Chamber Detectors

Particle Chamber Detectors are blocks used in Particle Chambers, to increase their efficiency at the cost of increased power cost. Expensive to craft, but useful to increase process speed in Target Chambers.

Requirements to progress into the next stage

  • Have a dedicated accelerator for P-doped Silicon production.
  • Craft another stack or two of NC machine upgrades.
  • Increase power production to at least 50-75 kRF/t, increase energy storage beyond 100-150 MRF.
  • Obtain at least 4,000 mb of LHe.
  • Have at least a few Hafnium ingots.
  • Have an accelerator capable of accelerating particles to 5 MeV.
  • More stainless steel, steel, tough alloy and bronze.

Stage 3: Advanced Multiblocks

Stage Description

In this stage, you get access to the advanced tier of multiblocks, which includes synchrotrons, beam diverters and beam splitters. By the end of this stage, you'll produce BSCCO dust, needed for the elite tier of multiblocks!

Synchrotron Accelerator (Synchro)

Synchrotron Accelerators accelerate particles in a ring, to energies LINACs aren't able to achieve. Synchros will be able to accelerate particles at very high energies, required for several recipes that either aid progression, or are required to progress to the next stage. Synchros are needed to produce materials such as Strontium, Yttrium, Neodymium, and provide an alternative way to obtain Tungsten, Titanium, Osmium, Platinum, Iridium, Hafnium.

Beam Diverter

Beam Diverters are able to bend an incoming particle beam, sending it to a different direction. Useful for making more compact setups.

Beam Splitter

Beam Splitters take in a particle beam, and split it into two beams of half the particle units/tick (pu/t) of the original beam.

BSCCO dust & wire

BSCCO (Bismuth Strontium Calcium Copper Oxide, pronounced "bisko") is a material crafted out of the dusts that comprise its name. When combined with silver ingots, BSCCO wire is obtained. BSCCO wire is used to craft BSCCO magnets and RF cavities, as well as components used in the next stage, and Elite Processors. Elite Processors are reserved for the highest tier of multiblocks and gear in QMD.

Requirements to progress into the next stage

  • Osmium (2+ stacks), Iridium (2+ stacks), BSCCO wire (4+ stacks), Tungsten (4+ stacks), Platinum (~1/2 stack), Hafnium (~1/2 stack), a bit of Neodymium (~1/4 stack), Yttrium (1 stack)
  • Increased power generation (> 100 kRF/t) or increased energy storage (> 250 MRF)
  • More LHe and Liquid Nitrogen (LN2)
  • Even more stainless steel, steel, tough alloy and bronze.

Stage 4: Elite Multiblocks/Endgame

Stage Description

This stage includes the elite tier of multiblocks and high-end gear of QMD. In this stage, you can manipulate particles to the fullest extent, by slowing them down, colliding them at high energies with each other, produce antimatter and even make energy! You'll also gain access to QMD's gear, such as the HEV suit and the antimatter weaponry, which lets you use antimatter to destroy the world and your friends!

HEV Suit

The HEV Suit is a special set of armour, that is RF-powered, gives special abilities when powered and worn, as well as providing much more radiation resistance compared to NC's Hazmat Suit.

Decelerator

Decelerators are an Accelerator-type multiblock, that decelerate particles. Useful to bring particles down to no energy, wherever needed.

Collision Chamber

Collision Chambers are a Particle Chamber-type multiblock. They allow for the creation of more exotic particles by smashing very focused (default recipes require focus >= 5) particles into each other, usually at very high energies.

Exotic Containment

Exotic Containments are a Vacuum Chamber-type multiblock. Exotic Containments are used to hold & produce antimatter.

Nucleosynthesis Chamber (NSC)

Nucleosynthesis Chambers are a Vacuum Chamber-type multiblock. NSCs are used to perform two functions: muon-catalyzed fusion and the r-process. In muon-catalyzed fusion, two fluids (light elements) are fused with the help of muons, to produce one or two fluids and heat. In the r-process, a fluid (a molten element that is iron or heavier) is transmuted into a heavier element with the help of a neutron beam, producing heat in the process. The heat can be absorbed using a mercury coolant loop, which can then produce energy if used in a turbine. The muon-catalyzed fusion process is even able to produce enough heat to be power-positive!

Lepton Cannon

The Lepton Cannon is a ranged weapon that uses a lepton matter-antimatter pair (positronium, muonium and tauonium) as ammunition. Each type of ammunition deals a different amount of damage to entities, and has a different range. Beams shot from the weapon are able to pass through blocks.

Gluon Gun

The Gluon Gun is a ranged mining tool that is able to break through almost everything from a great distance. It operates on glueballs.

Antimatter Launcher

The Antimatter Launcher is a ranged weapon that uses antimatter (anti-H, anti-D, anti-T, anti-He-3 and anti-He) as ammunition. It launches a small quantity into the world, which explodes on contact with matter, creating gamma flashes and explosions whose strength depends on the type of antimatter used.

Requirements to progress into the next stage
