(Old) Boarding - LSFN/Design GitHub Wiki
=Description= Crew may board another ship, usually to gain control of it.
=Getting crew on board the other ship= Suggested methods of transport between two space-borne tin-cans include (but are not restricted to)
- Floating crew over in space suits
- Sending a shuttle between ship hangars ** Opening the other ship's hangar bay doors is left as an exercise for the player.
- Extending an atmosphere filled floppy plastic tunnel between the ships ** Extend to the other ship's airlock *** Opening the other ship's airlock doors is left as an exercise for the player. ** Extend to any point on the hull *** Cut through the hull
- Direct docking ** Compatible docking systems only ** Again, opening the other ship's airlock is left as an exercise for the player.
Whatever the choice of boarding method, it is highly recommended that the player first disables the other ship's manoeuvring, engine, FTL and weapon capabilities.
=Once on board= There are a number of possible things that can be achieved
- You can gain control of the ship ** Hack the ship's controls / computer *** Turn off life-support ** Hold the crew hostage and have the captain hand over control under duress ** The crew of the ship leave *** They were stupid enough to not set the Self-Destruct mechanism *** The self-destruct mechanism needs to be deactivated
- You can destroy the ship ** Hack the ship's controls / computer *** Cause overloads in systems *** Hack the self-destruct sequence and leave
- You can steal cargo ** Get into the cargo bay, open the cargo bay doors then push all of the cargo into space *** Scoop it up later ** Load cargo on to the ship you rode into the hangar bay in.
