Let's generate some ideas for the event here!

  • What if Lincoln...? – Creation of website brainstorming, "What if Lincoln . . . ?"
  • Libraries – Data munging of Lincoln City Libraries/public library data, and creating visualizations and other methods for communicating this information to a general audience.
  • Lincoln Municipal Code – Making the online Lincoln Municipal Code more readable, findable, usable (Wiki page: Lincoln Municipal Code ) (Nate's Gigthub page)
  • nebraska.gov data – Develop projects stemming from nebraska.gov data sources
  • Location based games – designed to get people active around #LNK while learning about our rich heritage. starting with downtown locations like the capital, working our way to O Street.
  • #LNK Answers – A #LNK site similar to Honolulu Answers
  • Better Nebraska Laws search – An attorney writes with this suggestion: "Unless you are buying into an expensive database, it is difficult to search the entire legal code of Nebraska at once. While you can do a keyword search, it looks like results from a search engine and it makes it difficult to see language in context. Something that is closer in presentation to a searchable PDF with a small column of search results and a large column of the finding in context. This would be helpful for Omaha and Lincoln municipal codes as well, but the state one is the biggie." Here is the current site: http://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/laws.php

###Ideas for future consideration:

  • renewable energy installations – We don't have the data for this now, but the Senior Policy Aide for Sustainability contacted us about the possibility of doing a map that would "allow for quick viewing of the renewable energy installations in Lincoln, mostly solar. These projects would be those that have a contract with LES to do "net metering," or be paid for energy put into the grid in excess of what is needed at that meter. I believe these agreements are public data/records. The idea is to show a growing number of installations in Lincoln as we gain more and more clean renewable energy." Maybe an idea for Open Nebraska's Hack Lincoln in October?
