Purpose:

Foodie Heaven

Foodie Heaven is a new food hall located in the up and coming Legacy area. Many famous name chefs have chosen to open a stall in Foodie Heaven, attracted by the promise of high traffic due nightly entertainment and cash-only transactions (supported by ready access to cash kiosks throughout the food hall). The owner, Amanda, recognizes that in order to keep up with customer expectations, she needs to provide a mobile experience for the food hall. She wants people to be able to browse the food hall offerings, locate attractions and necessities quickly, and interact with the kiosks using their cell phones to get cash. She also thinks it would be great to be able to share your food pictures on Instagram through the app and tag your friends.

Objective:

3/19/20

To create a mobile experience for the new and upcoming, fast-paced, cash only food hall.

  • Identify where customers can locate kiosks in high traffic areas for their cash-only transactions.
  • Offer a browsing experience of all food hall offerings.
  • Locate attractions and necessities.
  • Allow for quick interactions with kiosks using their cell phones to get cash.
  • Share your food pictures on Instagram through the app and tag friends.
  • Solve for how to measure the success of your solution.

Research:

Date

When this project was presented to me, my immediate personal reflection of the user needs began with my own personal anecdote of my time at the Markthalle Neun, in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin, Germany. The Markthalle Neun is exactly that of a fast-paced food market with vendors around every corner, Europe in general being very cash forward. I can place myself into the user's experience and pull from my own needs of being a young American in a fast-paced food market with very little knowledge of the language and how useful an app like this would be. My research must include more than my own experiences but this lead me to research further into applications that are intended for this purpose and how few markets there are like this in the U.S.

On a macro scale, I began to think of design precedents such as:

  • Yelp
  • Open Table
  • Any mall food court in America with a stagnant map that says "you are here" around various corners.

Open Table

Rose:

Open table has a very nice Ui/UX experience when in map view, the distinctions between where the restaurant is located and which restaurant you're looking at is very distinct and elegant-looking. It utilizes the animation of emphasizing the location icon when switching between restaurants in order to visually organize and build real mental connections for where restaurants are and what they serve.

Bud:

Open Table utilizes the filter feature very nicely, this feature would be helpful to the users within the Food Heaven app. Allowing the user the freedom to filter through cuisines will allow for users to pair down options and quickly navigate through the high traffic areas to their intended locations, putting the user closer to their preferences quicker.

Thorn:

Open Table has more features that are unnecessary to the users that we are designing for in this current project.
