Video adapters - Kyuchumimo/Micro-Joy-Home-Video-Computer GitHub Wiki

Depending on the model of VDP you own, you will have an analog video output, either composite, component or RGB.

In modern standards these video signals are obsolete. Therefore, it is necessary to use video adapters or converters to view the image being processed in the VDP.

  • CRT television

The first option is to use a CRT television. These devices can be found used at online stores, thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales. They are inexpensive and easy to find.

These devices usually come with composite video input and sometimes even component video.

I recommend this option, as these video processors were designed for this type of monitor in the first place. With them you will get the best video quality and experience.

  • AV to USB video converter

This device connects directly to a PC. When plugged in, 2 devices will appear, a camera and a microphone. Supports composite video which is captured at 30 fps and stereo audio. It is available online or at local electronics stores. They are inexpensive.

To capture the audio and video I recommend using Open Broadcaster Software (OBS)

  • AV to HDMI or YPbPr to HDMI

These devices can be found in many shapes and sizes. You can find them in online stores and in local electronics stores. They convert the video and audio signal directly to HDMI ready to be connected to a modern TV or monitor. They usually require an external 5V power supply.

  • CGA TO VGA (GBS-8200) or CGA to HDMI

These devices support composite video input or even RGBS to VGA. They can be connected to a computer monitor or TV with VGA input. They are useful for VDPs that have RGB + CSYNC as video output.

  • Rear camera display

These displays support composite video. You can find them online, they are cheap. The screen size is very small and the video quality is not the best, but it gets the job done.
