The 
heart of the deep is an item used to light the Otherside portal.
The heart of the deep randomly beats when in the player's inventory.
Obtaining
Hearts of the deep can be obtained by killing the warden, with a 100% chance of being dropped.
Usage
Lighting up the Otherside portal
By using the heart of the deep inside a reinforced deepslate frame, an Otherside portal will be created. This is similar to using flint and steel in an obsidian frame, which creates a Nether portal.
Crafting ingredient
Ingredients: Sculk Bone; Soul Crystal; Heart of the Deep
Result: Sonorous Staff
Trivia
- Other development names for the heart of the deep include "warden heart," "sculk heart," and "worm heart," the latter due to the idea of having it drop from shriek worms. The name "heart of the deep" was chosen to resemble the heart of the sea.
Tips
- The warden can only create a sonic boom if the target is within 15 blocks horizontally and 20 blocks vertically, which is a relatively short distance. Digging a 16 block-long tunnel before fighting the warden and shooting it with a bow is an easy way to kill it.
