This guide will walk you through the process of installing SkyBlocks+ on your computer.
Before installing SkyBlocks+, make sure you have:
- Java 8 (64-bit) - Available from multiple sources:
- Minecraft Java Edition purchased and installed
- At least 4 GB of RAM allocated to Minecraft (recommended)
- Forge for Minecraft 1.8.9 - Will be installed automatically with most methods
- Visit the SkyBlocks+ Modrinth page at modrinth.com/modpack/sbp
- You can either:
- Click the "Install" button to open with the Modrinth App automatically
- Download the
.mrpack
file and import it into any launcher that supports Modrinth packs
- If using the Modrinth App:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install
- Select your Minecraft installation folder when prompted
- If you downloaded the
.mrpack
file:- Open your preferred launcher (Prism, MultiMC, etc.)
- Use the "Import" or "Add Instance" feature and select the
.mrpack
file
- Once installed, launch the game through your launcher

Install Forge for Minecraft 1.8.9:
- Download from Forge website
- Run the installer and select "Install client"
- Launch Minecraft with the Forge profile at least once, then close it

Download the SkyBlocks+ zip/7z file from GitHub Releases

Locate your Minecraft installation folder:
- Windows:
%APPDATA%\.minecraft
- macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
- Linux:
~/.minecraft
- Windows:

Extract the zip/7z file contents into the
.minecraft
folder, allowing it to merge with existing directories -
Launch Minecraft with the Forge profile
- Download MultiMC from multimc.org or Prism Launcher from prismlauncher.org
- Install and set up the launcher
- Create a new instance and select Minecraft 1.8.9
- Right-click the instance and select "Edit"
- Go to "Version" and click "Install Forge"
- Select Forge for 1.8.9
- Download the SkyBlocks+ zip/7z file and extract its contents
- In the launcher, right-click the instance, select "Instance Folder"
- Copy the mods and config folders from the extracted SkyBlocks+ files to the instance folder
Note: CurseForge/GDLauncher support is not currently available. In the meantime, you can follow the Third-Party Launcher setup instructions above to install SkyBlocks+ with these launchers manually. (Not coming anytime soon!)
OptiFine is highly recommended for improved performance and additional visual features. Follow these steps to install OptiFine for SkyBlocks+:

Download OptiFine for Minecraft 1.8.9:
- For FurfSky Reborn texture pack compatibility: Use OptiFine HD U M6 Pre2 (recommended)
- For Hypixel+ Resource Pack or optimal performance: Use OptiFine HD U L5
- Get OptiFine from the official OptiFine website

If using the default Minecraft launcher or manual installation:
- Simply place the OptiFine
.jar
file in your.minecraft/mods
folder - Make sure Forge is already installed
- Simply place the OptiFine

If using MultiMC/Prism Launcher:
- Right-click your SkyBlocks+ instance
- Select "Edit Instance"
- Go to the "Mods" tab
- Click "Add" and select the OptiFine
.jar
file

If using Modrinth App:
- Select your SkyBlocks+ instance
- Click on the "..." (three dots) menu
- Select "Open Folder"
- Navigate to the "mods" folder
- Copy or drag the OptiFine
.jar
file into this folder - Return to the Modrinth App
- Start the instance

Launch the game to verify OptiFine was installed correctly
- You should see the OptiFine version in the bottom-left corner of the main menu
- You can also check in the Mods list
SkyBlocks+ performs best with 4GB of RAM allocated to Minecraft:
- Open the launcher and select the "Installations" tab
- Find the Forge profile, click the three dots, and select "Edit"
- Click "More Options"
- In the "JVM Arguments" field, change
-Xmx2G
to-Xmx4G
(for 4GB) - Click "Save"
- Right-click the instance and select "Edit Instance"
- Go to "Settings" on the left
- Under "Java Settings", adjust the "Maximum memory allocation"
- Select your SkyBlocks+ instance
- Click on the "..." menu in the top right
- Select "Edit"
- Go to the "Java" tab
- Adjust the "Memory" slider to at least 4GB
- Click "Save"
- Click on "Minecraft" from the sidebar
- Find and select your SkyBlocks+ profile
- Click the three dots in the upper right corner
- Select "Profile Options"
- Scroll to "Allocated Memory" and adjust the slider to 4GB
- Click "Done"
- Right-click the SkyBlocks+ instance
- Select "Instance Settings"
- Go to the "Java" tab
- Set "Memory" to at least 4GB
- Click "Save"
- Launch Minecraft with the Forge profile
- Once the game loads, press Escape and check for the "Mods" button
- Click "Mods" to see a list of all installed mods - you should see all SkyBlocks+ components
If you encounter issues during installation:
- Game crashes during launch: Make sure you have Java 8 (64-bit) installed
- Forge won't install: Try downloading it directly from the Forge website
- Missing mods: Verify that all files were extracted correctly
- Compatibility issues: Check if you have other mods that might conflict with SkyBlocks+
