StereotaxicHolders - KravitzLab/KreedLabWiki GitHub Wiki

Securely holding cannulas and fiber optics is critical during surgery.

To make a simple stereotaxic clamp holder, you will need:

  1. A rod holder for attaching the 7.9mm rod to the stereotaxic frame. These are ~$160 new but can often be found on Ebay.

  2. Officially the rod holder is sized for a 7.9mm diameter rod, but 8mm diameter works fine. 100mm in length is good and can be ~$2 per rod in stainless steel.

  3. A "dual hose separator" clamp from Racetronix, which cost ~$4 each. You can buy this part in multiple sizes. 5/16" is ~8mm for the steel rods. For smaller parts like the 162B pin vice for fiber optics, buy 3/16" (4.7mm) and drill one side out to 8mm to clamp the rod.

  1. A pin vice. Spring for the brand name Starrett, they're nice :) Model 162B holds 0.7-1.4mm (good for 1.25mm fiber optic ferrules) Model 240D holds 2.8-5.1mm (good for 4.7mm fluid cannulas).
