Oxycodone Self‐Administration Protocol - KravitzLab/KreedLabWiki GitHub Wiki

The oxycodone self-administration protocol is a 12 day long experiment where the mice are forced to drink increasing concentrations of oxycodone for five days before introducing a 2 bottle choice with oxycodone in one bottle and tap water in the other. By forcing them to only drink oxycodone-dosed water for 5 days, we are able to overcome the aversive taste of oxycodone and induce a preference for the drug.

More in depth information about the oxy protocol can be found in Slivicki et al, 2022.

The schedule is as follows (from Slivicki et al, 2022):

To administer the drug, you can use the devices created and published in Godynyuk et al, 2019. It features an in-cage sipper with electronics to measuring drinking times and bouts, that are recorded on an SD card. This sipper design and instructions for printing can be found within the wiki here.
