Kreed lab procedure for bringing mice upstairs

1. Log into Transnetyx.com, identify the mice you want and claim them using the "Labels" tag in the "cage" or "mouse" view (you can do this ahead of time, even right after genotyping)

2. Check the 9th floor in-and-out or Kreed lab rack to ensure there is space for cages to move up (once you move them out of the breeding room they cannot go back!)

3. Complete a transfer form and email it to the "Kreed-Mice" listserve (we need to set this up but the listserve will have the relevant DCM staff, everybody in lab, and also auto-post to a Slack channel). In the subject line of the email put basic information on what you're moving ie: "Moving 3 cages of VGAT mice to 9th floor Room 9274"

4. Go get your mice!

5. After you move the mice, update the transnetyx website to reflect that you have moved mice out of the breeding room.

Required access

Everyone will need a login to transnetyx.com and a DCM tour to get access to our breeding room (360)

Breeding/weaning

Mason/Michelle will manage breeding and weaning and will check weekly that transnetyx.com reflects the actual state of the breeding rack.

Potential failure points/other considerations:

• Moving mice out of the breeding room is a one-way deal! So we should never move breeders or mice that we need for breeding out of the room.

• People may forget to update Transnetyx when mice move out

• People may claim mice on Transnetyx with the intention of using them but never get to it, blocking others from using them

•People may forget to change their cages on the Kreed lab purple rack

• There is no substitute for communication – if you are claiming a bunch of mice ask around and see what other people's plans are.

• We can devote 5 minutes at lab meeting to review the weekly mouse moves, to help facilitate communication and make sure our breeding schemes are working
