nextSIS is being developed by people from a variety of linguistic backgrounds, but for reasons of practicality our lingua franca (working language) during this phase is English, and any variety of it people speak. What that means is that the developer documentation here may ultimately carry variations in spelling, particularly between British and American English.

However, as the convention in computer languages is for American English spelling, and it is important to be consistent at the code level to avoid bugs, American English spellings will be used for variables, objects, methods, functions and so on, as well as for table names and fields with respect to the database.

nextSIS is being designed from the ground up to support internationalisation and localisation. The default interface language will be American English, but there will be a British English option. When English user documentation is finally written to accompany the first version of the system, this is likely to be presented wholly in American English for consistency.
