We have moved to CurseForge - Kizari/Flagrum GitHub Wiki
Moving the community away from ModWorkshop isn't a decision we made lightly. Here is why we felt it necessary.
1. Creative Integrity
This was the straw that broke the camel's back. Originally, we established on ModWorkshop on the recommendation of another reputable modding community after being displeased with Nexus' terms of service. These terms of service state that anything you upload becomes the property of Nexus, and they can do whatever they like with your work. Unfortunately, we've recently discovered that ModWorkshop has the same clause in their Terms of Service. While we did read ModWorkshop's terms page at the time, what we didn't realise is that there was a second one down in the footer with a different set of terms. This is simply not a compromise we're willing to make, as the IP rights of the creations of the modding community should belong to nobody but the authors. We have dug into CurseForge's ToS extensively to ensure this isn't the case, and they even explicitly clarify that you retain all rights to your work. Surprisingly, it is the only mod hosting site we could find anywhere that doesn't have such a clause.
2. File Size
ModWorkshop has a maximum upload size of 250MB (or 100MB if adding multiple files).
With our capabilities improving, this was becoming a real hindrance, as some of our newer content mods were beginning to exceed these limits.
3. Limitations
While ModWorkshop worked well enough, it was designed with PayDay2 in mind, and that was beginning to affect us negatively. The categories and tags that were available to FFXV simply didn't work for us at all, and unfortunately ModWorkshop weren't interested in changing this. Further to that, there is currently no API support for integrating better functionality into Flagrum directly. While they have basic API support planned for a future version of the site, it is still very limited and won't allow us to achieve what we want.
4. Longevity
CurseForge is a larger platform with a much bigger financial backing than ModWorkshop, as it is the main place for Minecraft mods and WoW addons. On the other hand, ModWorkshop is run by a very small group and relies on ads and donations to keep alive, and unfortunately they have been struggling. This was beginning to become a real concern as we have no idea how long the site will continue, while we want our mods to be readily available for many years to come.
5. Exposure
With CurseForge being a much more well known site, it is also more likely for the mods and the modding community to be seen there than on ModWorkshop. With the XV modding scene being as small as it is, this is a very important factor for us.
We apologise for any inconvenience this causes, but we look forward to the vast array of improvements this will provide our modding community as we progress into the future.
