medical system - Kieranator/BadArma GitHub Wiki

##Basics Use interact or self interact and select "Treat" to open the medical menu.

Using the system, in short:

  • Diagnose. Don't forget what's broke or you'll have to diagnose again.
  • Bandage wounds. Light/moderate wounds require one bandage, heavy needs 2.
  • Inject epinephrine if unconscious. Usually only medics carry epi.
  • Give bloodbag if needed. Do this before epi if they're really low.
  • Inject morphine if needed. Only need it if pain is affecting your aim.

More than 3 morphine in succession will kill you.

##Walkthrough
When injured, take cover if possible and diagnose yourself. If the wound caused light bleeding on a single limb, you have time before you need medical attention. Multiple bleeding body parts or heavy bleeding is more urgent. Keep fighting if needed, else stop the bleeding with bandages. You may not have enough bandages, let your leader know and ask for help from teammates or a medic.

When severely wounded, you'll pass out and fall face down, unable to move or speak. Survival depends on your teammates and the situation. There's a chance you'll wake up on your own, use these seconds to call out to friendlies and try to stop bleeding. The more blood you lose the more likely you'll pass out, losing too much blood is fatal. Hopefully the medic will find you, stop your bleeding, and inject you with epinephrine. Epi forces you to regain consciousness, but if you've lost too much blood you'll fall unconscious again. Have a teammate give you a bloodbag to stay awake.

Once you're bandaged, awake, and have received blood if needed, your vision might be affected and shaky, or your weapon unsteady. Morphine will fix this, it may take 2 doses. Everyone usually starts with one morphine injector, medics carry more.

##Casualties When a teammate goes down, remember you can't save them if you're dead. Take cover and start fighting, the best way to save a casualty in combat is often killing the enemy. Determine whether they are alive: unconscious players will lie face down in a particular way, dead players will ragdoll and drop their weapon.

If the engagement lasts and they are alive, coordinate suppression, throw smoke grenades, and, only if possible, drag or carry the casualty to cover. Decide where you'll take them before you run out. If you secure them or the fight moves away, try to stop their bleeding and notify your team leader if they need a medic for treatment or epi. Marking their location '[name of wounded] MEDIC' on the map is helpful.

Once you stop their bleeding, use all their bandages, or the medic arrives, rejoin the fight or pull security. Medics perform medical actions much more quickly than everyone else. If you're with the casualty when the medic arrives and can remember exactly what's left to fix, tell them. Then leave them to it.

###The fatal and cosmically ironic "Medic Huddle" When someone is treating a casualty, please don't gather around them. Keep your interval and let them handle it, or ask from afar if they need help. If they run out of supplies, they'll be vocal about it and someone can replace them.
