G0: Support
GS13 attracts many new players, for whom GS13 will be their very first experience with SS13. While mentors are available to assist them, all players are encouraged to assist newcomers.
If your department has an intern, offer to teach them or ask if they have any questions. If you notice someone is struggling, regardless of their rank or role, reach out to them (IC or LOOC) and ask if they need assistance.
Command role players are less encouraged and more expected to assist people who are new to their department. If you have reservations about teaching new people in your department, you may want to reconsider playing a command position.
G1: Consideration
Consider other players when taking certain roles, making modifications to the station, etc.
If you take a limited role, but you are not utilizing it for its intended purpose (like if you go off to RP with someone), consider changing your job or signing up as an off-duty assistant. Other players may wish to use these roles instead. This generally applies to positions such as command, bartender, botanist, and curator, where only one or two can be on station at a time.
If you make modifications to the station, including your own department, try to make these modifications as unobtrusive as possible. For example, if building something in maintenance, do not place walls/machinery over long lengths of pipes or wires and other station infrastructure. Do not completely reorganize medbay and turn chemistry into an open bar. Don’t tear down the wall/door between the kitchen and botany because it was “in the way”.
Before cryoing or logging out during an active shift, please ensure your workspace is accessible. This means returning tools (especially those in limited quantity), ensuring your department/workspace is organized, and repairing/fixing anything that has been broken or destroyed, if it is within your capabilities. If you have taken the spare ID, blueprints, departmental protolathe boards, etc, you are expected to return these things to their proper places before leaving.
Leaving departments in a mess can be detrimental to the experience of other players. In some cases, it can also result in accidents from misuse of equipment depending on what was left out. At the very least, packing the mess into a locker is preferable to leaving out equipment, materials, etc.
G2: RP is Not Protected
While roleplay is a large part of GS13, please ensure you place your job above RP interactions.
When called upon to do essential aspects of your job, you are expected to perform them regardless of whether or not you’re involved in RP/ERP.
Assistants/off-duty crew are exempt from this unless specifically called upon by commanding officers.
When on station, your RP is always at risk of being interrupted by forces beyond your control. Events, antags, etc, may cause your scenes to be interrupted. Part of the appeal of SS13 is being engaged in an active environment during your RP. If you require a less intensive place to roleplay, the Ghost Cafe role exists to provide you with a safe, conflict-free environment in which to do scenes/RP/ERP uninterrupted.
G3: Being a Nuisance
Despite the rules and guidelines in place here, fun is, in fact, allowed on station. You are permitted to be a nuisance as you wish, but please try to do so without being antagonistic or disruptive to other players. Ideally, if you’d like to be a professional nuisance, the clown role exists specifically for it.
Being a nuisance should not take priority over your assigned roles on station, or your incentive to keep the station functional and secure. If you want to play pranks on security by spray painting vulgar messages outside of their department and decorating the hall outside with banana peels, that’s totally fine, but doing so while the station is on alert due to credible threats could be considered self-antagging.
If any nuisance behavior results in harm to the crew, be it direct or indirect, you may be held responsible for self-antagging / griefing.
Finally, if the crew, or security, gets tired of your shit, don’t be surprised to find yourself in the brig, or even perma.
G3.1: Simplemobbing
“Simplemobs” are non-sentient and AI-controlled creatures in SS13. These creatures include station pets like Poly or Ian, creatures like cows or cats, and hostile creatures like space carps and xenomorphs. Simplemobs are so named generally due to their lack of organs, inability to process chemicals, and reduced capabilities to interact with the station, equipment, or players.
When taking control of a simplemob via random event, you are under no obligation to be friendly toward the station or her crew unless you’re a station pet. Likewise, they are not obligated to tolerate your continued existence, regardless of your friendliness or hostility.
When presented with the opportunity to transform oneself into a simplemob, players are expected to understand that doing so is irreversible and effectively “kills” their character for that round short of admin intervention. Please be very careful not to turn into a simplemob as an act of self sabotage. Additionally, be warned that whatever you may turn yourself into, the crew may not approve of it. As a simplemob you are not protected by the same laws protecting crew, regardless of what you were before.
G4: ERP Etiquette
When engaging in ERP, you should consider the following:
-
Has all necessary departmental work/duties been fulfilled? If you are unable to fulfill the duty of your department, consider rejoining the shift as an assistant or off-duty.
-
Will your ERP be occupying a high traffic area, or an area which is vital to the operation of an active department, job, etc? Be aware that your ERP may be interrupted, and does not take priority over people’s activities, duties, etc. To avoid interruptions, consider moving to a dormitory or the ghost cafe.
-
Does everyone present consent, including spectators? Consent is covered in R4: Content and Consent. This also applies to spectators when doing your ERP in a public or otherwise non-private space. Be respectful and move your ERP to a different location if the company present does not wish to spectate.
Outside parties should also attempt to be respectful of those engaged in ERP. If you walk into a maintenance closet, dormitory room, or other space which could be considered “private”, respect their space. If you absolutely need something inside of the room, retrieve it and leave.
Also be aware that while others ERPing inside of high traffic/active areas are not entitled to peace or privacy, this does not give you free reign to disrupt their ERP for the sheer sake of disrupting it.
