whats prevalent in SV is folks who think they are winners, smart, they are too confident that they will hack it and "figure it out"... thats come at the exclusion of the voices that should be heard in a worthy society, and a myopia that is very concerning. its goiing to cost the industry and the society a lot. a lack of empathy could unravel the country.
The anti science right - ive speant time with them - theyve lost alot of control. I think their scape goat is missplaced... but can you blaim them for having a scapegoat? people have lost farms, houses, the ability to plot their own future. A life is enriched by empathy. and you can build a better business.
on education - happiness is all that really matters. if people are judging you by their GPA, they dont know how else to evaluate their. Happiness, balance, matters.
"tonight i will be in my bed" got me through iron man, physical challenges.

"SV has invested in the things white guys understand... and they miss big markets become of it!!" styleseat - ignored by whiteguys on sandhill road, we hit that investment because we listend to other people innventure - credit in the developing world run by a short indian woman - she knows wtf shes doing! the TAM cannot be understood by your white guy brain, and you will miss deals if you discrimenate Do (DEI) cause your a hippie, or your scrooge mcduck. Just do it. If you frame things as too philanthropic, you might disencentivise action by accident. DO IT CAUSE YOULL MAKE ALOT OF FUCKING MONEY.
scaling companies creates politics, pissing matches,
ONLY YOUR EMPLOYEES CAN KEEP YOU HONEST IN TECH. boards dont always have that much power. Google, fb, etc... Talent is rare, they have the chips. More than the VCs sometimes.
in ALL relationships, hear and validate before fixing. repeat, then quesion
OWNERSHIP IS EVERYTHING - and mgmt should enable and encourage that.
A team v b team is passion and effort, not eliteness/talent
ppl who suceed in vc are obsesive, ALWAYS thinking about interesting things
make deals come to you in vc. Investors of all sorts should know what they bring to their investments.
