Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I get a warning about BackgroundResources.

A: This plugin is packaged alongside some JPLRepo mods : DeepFreeze and TAC-LS. DeepFreeze is compatible and supported by Kerbalism, but you need to delete the GameData\REPOSoftTech\BackgroundResources folder to use it with Kerbalism.

You can also disable a specific notification globally for all new vessels from the Kerbalism section in KSP difficulty settings.

Q: I get a warning about another mod whenever I start the game.

A: Kerbalism changes some fundamental things in KSP. There are some mods that cannot coexist with Kerbalism because they offer similar features, or something quite similar. Obviously this list includes other life support mods, but also mods that deal with resource production and consumption, especially on unloaded vessels in the background.

Unfortunately there is nothing much that the authors of other mods can do about that, so please don't request any updates from them. Further details are in Mod Support.

Q: How to disable timewarp stopping notifications

A: In the Kerbalism vessel UI, go to the "cfg" tab to disable notifications for a specific vessel.

Q: I can't transfer samples from one part to another, why?

A: Samples are physical things, you need a Kerbal to transfer them between parts (EVA or crew on board). However, there is a difficulty setting to Always allow sample transfers even on uncrewed vessels.

Q: How about support for [x]Science! and others?

A: Most of the features those mods provide are implemented in Kerbalism, like automatic triggering of science instruments and information about what science subjects are available in the game. Supporting those mods can't be done as the Kerbalism science system differ too much from stock.

Q: Why is there no pressure in my MK1 pod?

A: The MK1 pod is not designed to be pressurised. Ever. Your challenge is to keep those Kerbals alive and comfortable until you unlock bigger and better Pods.

Q: The warnings about incoming solar storms prevent me from time warping all the time. How can I turn them off?

A: Kerbalism will display a warning about solar storms when the affected planetary system contains at least one vessel with the "space weather" warning turned on. If you turn that warning off for all vessels within a planetary system (including all the vessels at all moons), the warning will no longer appear and time warp won't be stopped any more.

Q: My fuel cells don't produce electricity, what can I do?

A: Try these:

  • Make sure you have enough space for the water produced
  • Set the option to "dump water"
  • Switch them on and off again

Q: What happens if the stress level goes above 100%? Can Kerbals die of stress?

At 100% (I think? might be lower), a random bad thing happens, then stress goes back down a good chunk and starts ticking up again. Reported examples of random bad things:

  • accidentally dumping parts of a random resource (water, food, oxygen)
  • the deletion of the science data
  • the destruction of a part in a rage
