Costco revenue data - KamarajuKusumanchi/market_data GitHub Wiki
Costco revenue data can be obtained from their quarterly filings (10-Q) and annual reports (10-K). The firm files three 10-Q s and one 10-K in a given fiscal year and makes them available on their investor relations website. The 10-Q s contain results for that quarter while the 10-K contains results from all the four quarters of that fiscal year. In each report, the results are compared with the corresponding period in the prior year.
The quarterly filings can be accessed from
http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=83830&p=irol-irhome -> SEC Filings -> set the Groupings Filter to Quarterly Filings -> searchin either excel or pdf format. Each format has some advantages and some disadvantages. The excel format is easier to "grep" while the pdf is more comprehensive. For example, the excel file does not mention the units of revenue (ex:- millions or thousands). For this one has to refer to the pdf.
To get the revenue from the excel version
Find the 10-Q of interest -> select the excel format -> open in excel -> go to the "Income Statement" tab -> Get the value from "Total Revenue" row
The revenue data in 10-Q s go all the way back to quarter ending on 1992-11-22.
The procedure to access them is similar to the quarterly filings except that the Groupings Filter should now be set to Annual Filings and instead of 10-Q, we now select the 10-K of interest.
Unlike 10-Q, the 10-K does not explicitly give the quarter end dates. It only gives the end of fiscal year (which corresponds to the fourth quarter end). For other quarters, the end dates have to be either deduced based on the length of the quarter or from the corresponding 10-Q.
The revenue data in 10-K s go all the way back to fiscal year ending on 1993-08-29.
