North Korean Operating System - Kahuna915/Capstone-Cloud-Integration GitHub Wiki
Red Star OS
So in 1998, North Korea released a Linux operating system developed by Korea Computer Center. As time has continued the OS was updated and as of 2014 version, 1.0 is the most common. It features a web browser like firefox called Naenara and a few other applications. The system is made to keep data within it and track people so that they cannot get to foreign movies and applications. Version 4.0 was released in 2020 when South Korea was able to get a copy of it and the initial belief is that it is based on a linux OS. The web in North Korea is highly restricted and only government officials and foreigners are able to access the real web.I want to explore this and see how it is done and then write a report and possibly make it reachable on Naenara. This topic is interesting to me because I knew a senior when I was a freshman who discussed the idea and how incredibly secure North Korea is with the outside world and limiting its citizens from the web. I believe the web belongs to everyone so I hope that with this idea I can maybe find a loophole or generate a report that is seen and has conclusive evidence to help people live a free, better life.
