RO & RP 1 Express Installation for 1.12.5 - KSP-RO/RP-1 GitHub Wiki
- Move your existing KSP instance(s) to a directory separate from the one that KSP was installed in originally to prevent it from being uninstalled/changed by Steam/PD/Epic.
- Install a new copy of KSP 1.12.5 (1.12.4 and 1.12.3 are also fine). Do not try to install on top of your old modded KSP.
- If you purchased KSP through Steam, update to KSP 1.12.5 if you haven't already, and then uninstall and reinstall KSP.
- If you purchased KSP through the Private Division/KSP Store, re-run
KSPInstallerx64-1.12.5.exe
to create a fresh copy. - If you purchased KSP through the Epic Games store, update to KSP 1.12.5 if you haven't already, and then uninstall and reinstall KSP.
- Move your new RO KSP instance to a separate directory from the one that KSP was installed in originally to prevent it from being uninstalled/changed by Steam/PD/Epic.
- Download CKAN and point it at your new KSP 1.12.5 installation.
- Press the "Refresh" button in CKAN.
- In CKAN, go to Settings->Compatible Game Versions and check only 1.12.
- Via CKAN, select search for and only select Express Install Realism Overhaul/Realistic Progression 1 (RO/RP-1). (make sure it contains Express, if you cannot click this then you have done something wrong and need to reread these instructions)
- Press green "Apply" button to switch to the Changeset tab.
- Click Apply again to confirm.
- You will be presented with a set of Recommended mods. These are the mods we recommend installing with RO/RP-1 and thus they default to being selected. You may, however, choose to deselect any you don't wish to install, though you are encouraged to leave them at the default values. When done, click Continue.
- You will be presented with the message "Ferram Aerospace Research Continued requires TweakScale-Redist, which can be provided by multiple mods". Select TweakScale Rescaled Redistributable.
- You will be presented with a choice of graphics level. Choose based on your computer's power level and memory. Medium should work for all but the slowest computers, or those with less than 16 GB of memory. If you have 32 GB of memory or more and a reasonably fast CPU and GPU, select High.
- You will be presented with a choice of career. You may either select RP-1 (recommended, if you wish to play career as well as sandbox) or No Career.
- Click Continue again and all your mods will download and install. NOTE this will take some time, as even the minimal install involves multiple GB of downloads, and the High-Res choice has considerably more.
- "The following mods have had their metadata changed since last update": Just click "Yes", it will complete very quickly and have little effect.
- "Module Ferram Aerospace Research Continued wants to overwrite the following..." Just click "Yes". It should be fine.
The express install is sufficient for almost all players. We recommend only installing extra mods if you've played with the defaults and specifically find them lacking. For now, ASSUME ALL MODS NOT EXPLICITLY MARKED AS COMPATIBLE WITH RSS/RO/RP-1 WILL BE INCOMPATIBLE!
- When CKAN is done installing, launch KSP.
- Your first launch of KSP will take a very long time, and will appear to hang a few times, especially when the progress bar says Loading Expansions. This is normal; a first launch involves creating cached versions of the new planets and various other first time tasks, along with ModuleManager creating a cached copy of all config changes.
- If you can't close the parallax warning by clicking, try pressing ESC.
- Once you make it to the main menu, go ahead and set up your settings the way you like. Lastly, create a test sandbox save and poke around to make sure that everything is working.
This list contains bugs and issues reported by the community. Feel free to edit this section if you find bugs/issues.
- SXT parts are missing textures, which can be fixed by running the Windows_CopyTextures.bat in the SXT folder
- EVE doesn't load clouds over Earth as displayed in the main menu. This is normal and expected.
- If your game freezes right before loading the main menu, give it time. If it persists more than a few minutes just close it and launch again.
- If you have a Linux installation, you have to start the game from the local game directory, or the game will pick up the wrong physics files (resulting in procedural wings overheating at launchpad and other issues) (Starting from CKAN has worked fine for me, is this still an issue?)
- The Persistent Thrust mod can cause some engines to not produce any thrust. Avoid it.
- KER can cause random crashes in the flight scene. This is usually accompanied by
RCS exceeded loop count
logspam. This may be fixed with KER 1.1.9.5. - Parallax will indicate it is not compatible with the current version of KSP. This is fine, and it will work as expected.
