A quadratic equation will have 2 solutions. Plotting the function will give raise to a parabola.

An equation of the form

𝐲 = 𝐜 + 𝐛·𝐱 + 𝐚·𝐱²

Will have two solutions, of the form

𝛔² =  -𝘣² + 𝘢𝘤

𝙭𝟭 = -𝘣 + 𝛔
    / 2𝘢

𝙭𝟮 = -𝘣 - 𝛔
    / 2𝘢

A parabola will concentrate parallel rays into a point; or, in reverse, it will produce parallel rays from a point source.
