Description
Investiture of Flame transforms the caster into a being of living fire, granting several fiery benefits and immunities.
Effects:
-
Fire Immunity:
- You are immune to fire damage for the duration of the spell.
-
Fire Aura:
- Any creature within 5 feet of you that hits you with a melee attack or touches you takes 1d10 fire damage.
-
Fiery Attacks:
- You can use your action to create a line of fire 15 feet long and 5 feet wide, emanating from you in a direction you choose. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d8 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
-
Fire Movement:
- You can move across difficult terrain made of ice or snow without expending extra movement. The heat you generate melts the ice or snow as you pass, leaving a trail of melted ground behind.
Strategic Applications:
-
Tank Role: With immunity to fire and the ability to deal automatic fire damage to attackers, Investiture of Flame is particularly effective for frontline combatants who want to wade into the thick of battle.
-
Area Denial: The spell’s fiery aura and line attack can discourage enemies from approaching you, making it useful for controlling the battlefield.
-
Synergy with Environment: Ideal in icy or snowy terrains where the spell can negate difficult terrain and create a hazardous environment for others.
-
Damage Output: The line of fire attack is a reliable source of damage that can affect multiple targets in a straight line, making it useful against groups of weaker enemies or tightly clustered foes.
Limitations:
-
Concentration: The spell requires concentration, making you vulnerable to losing it if you take damage. Maintaining concentration can be challenging in prolonged battles.
-
Melee Range: The fire aura only affects creatures within 5 feet, limiting its effectiveness to close combat situations.
-
Single Use Line Attack: The line of fire is an action, meaning it competes with your other potential actions during your turn.
-
Fire Resistance: Enemies with resistance or immunity to fire damage will be less affected by the spell’s benefits, limiting its usefulness against certain foes.
Notes:
-
Roleplay and Flavor: The transformation into a being of flame can be a significant thematic element for characters with fire-based powers or a connection to elemental forces, such as a sorcerer with the Draconic Bloodline (Red or Gold Dragon) or a druid of the Circle of Wildfire.
-
Combining with Spells: Works well in combination with other fire-based spells or effects, potentially overwhelming enemies that lack fire resistance.
-
Ideal For: Sorcerers, wizards, and druids who want to boost their combat effectiveness with fire-based abilities, especially in scenarios where fire damage and terrain manipulation are advantageous.
