Transmute Rock
- Level: 5th-level transmutation
- Casting Time: 1 action
- Range: 120 feet
- Components: V, S, M (clay and water)
- Duration: Instantaneous
Description: You choose an area of stone or mud that you can see within range and that fits within a 40-foot cube and transmute it into a different material.
-
Rock to Mud:
- Effect: Nonmagical rock in the area becomes an equal volume of thick, flowing mud that remains for the spell’s duration.
- Movement: Any creature on the mud must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the creature sinks into the mud and is restrained. A creature restrained by the mud can use its action to make a Strength check against your spell save DC, freeing itself on a success.
- Mud Effects: The mud is difficult terrain. If you cast the spell on a ceiling, the mud falls.
-
Mud to Rock:
- Effect: Nonmagical mud or quicksand in the area becomes soft stone (sandstone) for the spell’s duration. Any creature in the mud when it hardens must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a successful save, a creature is shunted safely to the surface. On a failed save, the creature becomes restrained by the rock. A creature restrained by the rock can use an action to make a Strength check against your spell save DC, freeing itself on a success.
Higher Levels: The spell doesn't have any additional effects when cast using a higher-level spell slot.
