Description

Negative Energy Flood is a powerful necromantic spell that channels dark energy to damage living creatures and potentially raise them as undead.

Effects:

  • Target:

    • Choose one creature you can see within range.
  • Damage:

    • The target must make a Constitution saving throw.
    • On a failed save, the target takes 5d12 necrotic damage.
    • On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage.
  • Undead Creation:

    • If the damage kills the target, it rises immediately as a zombie under your control at the start of your next turn.
    • The zombie uses the game statistics provided in the Monster Manual.
    • The zombie is permanently under your control, following your verbal commands to the best of its ability.

Special Interactions:

  • Undead Target:
    • If the target is an undead creature, it does not make a saving throw.
    • Instead, the target gains temporary hit points equal to the necrotic damage dealt.

Strategic Applications:

  • Versatile Use Against Living and Undead:

    • This spell is potent against living targets, both as a damaging spell and a way to raise additional undead minions.
    • Against undead creatures, it serves as a buff, granting them temporary hit points.
  • Battlefield Control:

    • Use the zombie created by Negative Energy Flood to bolster your forces, control a point on the battlefield, or create additional threats for your enemies.
  • Synergy with Other Spells:

    • Combine this spell with effects that lower Constitution saves or that benefit from having additional undead minions, such as Animate Dead or Danse Macabre.

Roleplaying Opportunities:

  • Dark Influence:

    • A character using this spell might be seen as increasingly tainted by dark powers, especially if they habitually raise the dead in this manner.
  • Moral Dilemma:

    • The use of Negative Energy Flood to create undead could cause friction with more morally inclined party members or NPCs, offering rich roleplaying challenges.

Notes:

  • Material Components:

    • The spell requires a broken bone and a square of black silk, which could be roleplayed as tokens from the necromancer's grim collection of relics.
  • Permanent Control:

    • The zombie created is under the caster's control indefinitely, unlike some other undead-creating spells that have a limited duration.
  • Ideal For:

    • Negative Energy Flood is particularly useful for necromancers and warlocks who wish to expand their undead forces or deal significant necrotic damage.
