Description

Find Greater Steed is a 4th-level conjuration spell that allows the caster to summon a powerful, intelligent mount that serves as a loyal companion.

Effects:

  • Summoning: You summon a spirit that assumes the form of a loyal steed, which appears in an unoccupied space within range.
  • Intelligent Mount: The steed is intelligent and can communicate telepathically with you within a 1-mile radius.
  • Forms: You can choose from the following forms for your steed:
    • Griffin
    • Pegasus
    • Peryton
    • Dire Wolf
    • Rhinoceros
    • Saber-toothed Tiger
  • Mount Abilities: The steed has the statistics of the chosen form, though it is a celestial, fey, or fiend (your choice) instead of its normal creature type.
  • Shared Spells: When you cast a spell that targets only you, you can also target your steed with the spell.

Components:

  • Verbal (V): A spoken incantation is required to call forth the steed.
  • Somatic (S): Gestures made by the caster help shape the form of the summoned steed.

Strategic Applications:

  • Combat Mount: The steed can be a significant asset in combat, offering mobility, additional attacks, and potentially flight (if choosing a Pegasus, for example).
  • Shared Buffs: The ability to share spells with your steed can greatly enhance both your and your steed's survivability and effectiveness in battle.
  • Utility: Depending on the form chosen, the steed can provide various utilities, such as flying over obstacles, tracking enemies, or charging into battle with great force.

Limitations:

  • One Steed: You can only have one steed summoned by Find Greater Steed at a time. If you cast the spell again, the first steed disappears.
  • Concentration Spells: While the steed can share your spells, keep in mind that some spells require concentration, which could limit your options during intense encounters.
  • Steed’s Vulnerability: While powerful, the steed can still be targeted and damaged by enemies. Protecting it is crucial, especially if you rely on it heavily in combat or travel.

Notes:

  • The steed is under your control and acts on your initiative during combat.
  • The steed's intelligence and telepathic communication make it more versatile than standard mounts, allowing for complex strategies and coordination.
  • The form you choose should complement your character’s needs, whether it’s mobility, combat power, or specific resistances.
  • If your steed dies, you can cast the spell again to summon a new one.
