  • Components: V, S
  • Duration: Instantaneous

Description

Gust is a transmutation cantrip that allows the caster to manipulate air in a specific direction, creating a small gust of wind with various practical applications.

Effects:

When you cast Gust, you create a small burst of wind that can perform one of the following effects within range:

  1. Push a Creature:

    • You can push one Medium or smaller creature that you choose within range. The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be pushed up to 5 feet away from you.
  2. Move an Object:

    • You can create a small blast of air capable of moving an object that isn’t being worn or carried and weighs no more than 5 pounds. The object is pushed up to 10 feet away from you.
  3. Create Harmless Sensory Effects:

    • You can create a harmless sensory effect using air, such as causing leaves to rustle, wind to slam shutters closed, or your clothing to flutter in a breeze.

Components:

  • Verbal (V): You must speak an incantation to cast the spell.
  • Somatic (S): You need to make a gesture to direct the gust of wind.

Strategic Applications:

  • Crowd Control: Use the gust to push enemies away from you or your allies, creating space or causing them to fall off edges.
  • Object Manipulation: Move light objects or activate mechanisms from a distance.
  • Environmental Interaction: The ability to create sensory effects can be used to enhance roleplaying scenarios or distract enemies.

Limitations:

  • Strength Save: Creatures can resist the push effect if they succeed on a Strength saving throw.
  • Weight Limit: The spell can only move objects that weigh 5 pounds or less, limiting its utility for heavier items.
  • Range: The spell only affects targets or objects within 30 feet.

Notes:

  • Gust is a versatile cantrip, particularly useful for utility and creative problem-solving.
  • The spell’s ability to manipulate small objects and create minor effects makes it a good choice for casters looking for flexibility in non-combat situations.
  • It’s also a useful spell for repositioning creatures in combat, though its effectiveness depends on the target's Strength.
