Crown of Stars
- Level: 7th-level
- School: Evocation
- Casting Time: 1 action
- Range: Self
- Components: V, S, M (a polished agate)
- Duration: 1 hour
Description
Crown of Stars conjures seven star-like motes of light that orbit your head, which can be used as a powerful offensive spell. Each star can be hurled at a target as a bonus action, dealing radiant damage.
Effects:
- When you cast the spell, seven motes of light appear and orbit around your head.
- You can use a bonus action to send one of the motes streaking toward a target within 120 feet.
- The target must make a ranged spell attack. On a hit, the target takes 4d12 radiant damage.
- Once a mote is used to make an attack, it is expended and disappears.
- The motes shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet.
Components:
- Verbal (V): You must utter incantations to create and control the motes of light.
- Somatic (S): You must make specific hand gestures to shape and direct the spell.
- Material (M): A polished agate is required as a focus for the spell.
Strategic Applications:
- Persistent Damage: The ability to deal 4d12 radiant damage as a bonus action for up to seven rounds makes this spell highly effective in combat.
- Light Source: The motes provide bright and dim light, which can be useful in dark environments.
- Long Duration: The spell lasts for 1 hour, allowing you to hold onto the motes and use them strategically over an extended period.
- Range: With a range of 120 feet, you can target enemies from a safe distance.
Limitations:
- Bonus Action: Each attack with a mote requires a bonus action, limiting your ability to use other bonus actions during your turn.
- Expenditure: Each mote can only be used once, so you need to decide when to use them strategically.
- Concentration-Free: Unlike many other powerful spells, Crown of Stars does not require concentration, allowing you to maintain other spells simultaneously.
Notes:
- The radiant damage from this spell makes it particularly effective against undead and other creatures vulnerable to radiant damage.
- The long duration allows you to cast it before entering a dangerous area, ensuring you are prepared for combat.
- Consider pairing this spell with other abilities or spells that utilize your action economy effectively, as Crown of Stars primarily uses your bonus action.
