Cults of sorcery and wizardry, either white or black magic, practiced mostly by African Americans in the Antilles, especially Haiti.

Coming from the French vaudoux (doctor-witch in French), which is what the slavers would call the black wizards.

The ancestral traditions of Vudú are traced to ancient magical and religious traditions of western Africa, from Gambia to Angola.

When the African kings would sell as slaves to high quantities of subjects and conquered tribes, the ships of the Slave Trade would carry priests, witches, and wizards who would carry the beliefs of old through the Atlantic to the New World. The Slaves would usually gather communities around these wise sages.

In the Antilles, the new communities of slaves carried their spirits, divinities, and demons alike. This combination of powers made a new kind of beings, called Loas, and a new cult around them, broadly known as Vudú.

Vudú practitioners are called Houngans for the priests, and Zobops for the Warlocks and Witches.

Some Vudú Zobops can transform into Loup-Garou, a life-stealing beast spirit.

This power over spirits and Loas can provide great powers to Houngans and Zobops, and may lead communities, sometimes gathering powers from the living too. Some ceremonies are beautiful dances surrounding a great bonfire, led by drums.
