Game: Moon Tower

The game I am making is a a 2d action platformer with a focus on movement mechanics and Metroidvania type map design. You are in a tower that has been overrun by monsters and you, the Hero, need to kill all the monsters and take back the tower while you find collectible items and upgrades to your abilities along the way. As you play through the game you will go through rooms in each floor and each floor is its own level with a boss at the end of the floor. As you go up the tower each room and level will become more complicated and include more puzzles for you to solve. The main character fights just with a sword at moment but we plan to make it so that at the start of the game the player can choose their weapon, such as a sword or bow and arrow. That way the game will feel fresh when you replay it with a different weapon type. Because the level design is inspired by Metroidvania type games there will be some back tracking but for the most part it will be a linear progression.

Why make this game?

I want to make this game because when I thought of what type of 2d game to make I immediately thought of a platformer, but I didn’t want it to feel too generic, so I wanted to add a puzzle and exploration element to it and focus on movement. Then I thought that a Metroidvania game type would be perfect for this. This game will incorporate a lot of really fun gameplay mechanics like fast movement platforming, exploration, fighting monsters, and puzzle solving all in one.
