A simple overworld design concept

Overworld

This area will not be procedurally generated. The design will offer branching paths which terminate in portals to dungeons and which often require previously-acquired equipment to access. This area will have more of a “metroidvania” feel and will offer platforming challenges and enemies to defeat.

Dungeons

These will be procedurally generated, and there will be several to explore each with their own aesthetic. There will be multiple levels to each dungeon, each level culminating in a boss fight. The levels proceeding the initial level will be optional but will provide upgrades to the corresponding piece of equipment. After the first boss fight there will be a safe zone where the player can decide if he wants to move deeper into the dungeon or return to the overworld. In each dungeon, the different levels will have subtly different aesthetics.

Potential Dungeon Themes and Biomes

Overall, some dungeons can be more natural in their generation like cave environments. Others can be more structured such as in typical dungeon crawler games.

-Jungle (maybe with vines to climb/swing on)

-Ice

-Dark Dungeon (more magic/spirit type enemies and darker aesthetic)

-Simple Dungeon (basic enemies such as skeletons and rats)

-Magic Library

-Sewer

-Water
