First Time Setup

  • This setup guide will not link to any illegal roms, warez, or BIOS websites.

1. Setup Wizard

When you first boot up your device you will be greeted with a setup wizard. Do the following:

  • Enable Google Play Services (This will enable the Google Play store)
  • I'd recommend not installing the preinstall apps. They are outdated.
  • Select AOSP Launcher for now

2. Prepare Folders and Install Apps

We will be using the internal storage of the Retroid Pocket 3 Plus:

  • Download these folders
  • Place the extracted folder into the internal or external storage of your device
  • It should look like: roms\systemname
Setup Micro SD Card (Portable Storage) (Optional)
  • Format Micro SD Card as exFat or NTFS via PC
  • Insert Micro SD Card into Retroid Pocket 3 Plus device
  • Select the dropdown from the notification bar > SET UP
  • Select Portable Storage
  • This will not format your Micro SD Card
  • Portable Storage cannot be used to install apps
  • Some emulators might not be able to read or write to the Portable Storage
Setup Micro SD Card (Handheld Storage) (Optional)
  • Insert Micro SD Card
  • Select the dropdown from the notification bar > SET UP
  • Select Handheld Storage > Format
  • This will format your Micro SD Card
  • Handheld Storage can be used to install most apps
Install Apps Dropdown

We will now go through installing apps:

  • To install apks: Open the Files app > Locate & open the apk > Insatll
  • Install the latest stable RetroArch apk.
  • Install the latest Daijishou apk.

2a. BIOS Folder

  • You will need to acquire BIOS by yourself.
  • Place your RetroArch BIOS in the default RetroArch BIOS folder: RetroArch\system
  • You can find a list of systems that require bios here

2b. Roms Folder

  • You will need to acquire roms by yourself.
  • Place your roms inside the rom\systemname folder
  • You can find a list of each systems file extension here

3. RetroArch

User Interface On-Screen Display > On-Screen Notifications > Notification Visibility > "Load Content" Startup Disable
- On-Screen Display > On-Screen Overlay > Display Overlay Disable Leave enabled if using overlay
- Appearance > Scale Factor 0.90x
- Appearance > Layout Handheld
- Menu XMB Requires Restart
- Quit on Close Content CLI
Video Output Vulkan
Directory File Browser > Select roms/ folder
Input RetroPad Binds > Port 1 Controls Setup Controls Save Controller Profile when finished

Main Menu Configuration File > Save Current Configuration

4. Download Cores

  • Open RetroArch > Main Menu > Online Updater > Core Downloader > Download cores
