What Tutti is - JayThomason/Tutti GitHub Wiki

Tutti is a mobile application currently under development that makes it easier to share music in the car.

The Problem

Suppose that there are four or more people driving in a car, but only the driver's phone is connected to the car via bluetooth. Everyone has music stored on his or her phone. Everyone wants to have some say in what song is played next. Today, it is too slow to disconnect the driver's phone and reconnect someone else's phone to the car so that a passenger can pick a song from their phone to play next.

How Tutti Helps

Using Tutti, the driver can create a shared group playlist, or "Jam." At first this Jam contains all of the music on the driver's phone. As with a normal music player, the driver can choose songs to play and create a playlist to manage the upcoming songs.

When the passengers of the car use Tutti to join the driver's Jam, all of the music on their phones are added to the shared music library. They can all see all of the music on everyone's phones in a single library. Furthermore, they can collaborate to create a shared music playlist featuring music from any and all of their phones. They can pick songs in turn to participate in a new shared music experience.

There is no need to disconnect the driver's phone from the car's Bluetooth or aux cable. Instead the songs are streamed using Peer 2 Peer technology from the passengers' phones to the drivers phones so that the driver's phone can play the passengers' songs over the car's stereo.
