Our task was to determine the profile of our target customer and seek out a target customer to get feedback. We have aimed to create an app that can be used by a wide demographic, from 16-year-old girls to 50-year-old men. However, since our primary focus for the app is for use by Audi drivers in the car, we chose our target user to be an adult male who drives a high end car and has a family.

For our Real Customer Profile, we talked to Gaurav Garg (please see here for more detailed notes and photographs of our interaction with Gaurav). Gaurav is a 48-year-old Venture Capitalist who drives a Tesla Model S, and has a wife and two children ages 9 and 11. We demoed our app to Gaurav and observed him using it. Overall, he had a lot of positive feedback.

Quotes: “My 9-year old daughter would basically hijack my phone and be playing her music and controlling the car with her phone through mine.” “If you’re in my car, my phone would be the only one on Bluetooth, so the obvious case would be that you’re driving and if there are other people, you would collaboratively build the playlist.” “If my wife and I were driving in my car, the cool thing is that she could play songs on her phone that are not on my phone and you would collaboratively build the playlist.” “I like the collaborative aspect: you’ll have more music content because you’re expanding your library, as well as not distracting the driver.” “If you’re hanging out with friends, it would be kind of a cool dynamic.” “The concept is that you’re combining multiple music libraries temporarily and kind of ad hoc. That I think is pretty interesting” “Pretty much at every party I think I’d use this.”

Gaurav felt that his family would use this app often. He saw 3 common scenarios of use: 1.When he and his wife were driving together. Then, if they were driving in his car, his wife could stream her music through his Bluetooth-connected phone, and she could control his music as well so he wouldn't have to be distracted as the driver.

  1. When his kids were riding in the car. Both of his children have phones and have lots of music, so Gaurav said they would love this app (potentially a problem!)

  2. At gatherings/parties. He thought this was actually the most compelling scenario for using Tutti. He has parties at his house or has groups of friends come over often, and they always listen to music through their Jambox. However, this means that only one person's music can be streamed. For example, when his sister in law comes over, she always complains about his "junky 80s" music, so he ends up either downloading her song suggestions onto his phone or Bluetooth pairing her phone, which is a "big pain." He said he would use this app "all the time" when he has gatherings or parties.

We felt that we got a lot of great feedback from Gaurav. Especially since he is a VC, we feel his feedback is very valid as well. We plan to leverage this initial target user to gain broader user traction in the future. Seeing how positively he reacted, we would like to show our app to more users with a similar background to Gaurav to get more feedback once our app is more complete (since we are still working out some kinks). We also will leverage the feedback we got from Gaurav by potentially shifting our focus away from the car and towards other social environments.
