Difficulty goes from 0 (casual) to 4 (brutal)

The damage taken multiplier is: (1.+(2^(DIFFICULTY*.7)+DIFFICULTY*3)*0.1)-0.4

Damage done multiplier is: 0.9^DIFFICULTY

This means the following:

Difficulty Damage Taken % Damage Done %
Casual 70% 100%
Normal 106% 90%
Hard 146% 81%
Very Hard 193% 72.9%
Brutal 250% 65.61%
