On Critical Advanced - James226/aura-mastery GitHub Wiki

This section is all about how to setup notifications for abilities when you crit. Given that many classes have abilities that can only be used once you have met this criteria, this Aura will help you see and hear when these instances have been met without needing to look down!

Found your ability? Onwards to Implementation!

Want something loud and shiny, or quiet and dark to pop up when you crit? This is how to achieve success! Follow these simple steps to get the result you want, or die trying... I've heard Mondo doesn't mind either way. But, if you're scared, you can always take a look at our On Critical - Quick Start for a quicker and more basic guide.

Step one - Opening the Menu:

  • Type /am to open up the Aura Mastery menu.

Step two - Adding a new Aura:

  • Add a new Aura (Look to the bottom left of the window).
  • You will be greeted with the 'Simple' mode for the addon. You cannot do On Criticals in the Simple Mode at this time, though we are working hard to change this! Just a few more Aurins on the pile...
  • You can access the Advanced Mode by pressing the big red button in the bottom right, don't worry, it's safe. Honest. Chua's honour.

Step Three - Spell name

  • TOTAL ANNHILIA... no, sorry, getting ahead of myself.
  • On the General Tab enter the name of the Spell. For example, as a Medic you might want to track Atomize, so you would type Atomize.

Step Four - Saving and where it appears.

  • Press save. A small icon should now appear in the centre of your screen. The default icon looks like your spell.
  • Can't see it? Move Aura Mastery out the way!

Step Five - Moving, scaling and locking.

  • To move the icon to where you want you need to click the Padlock beside your spell. Look to the left.
  • Unlocked? Time to move and scale! To move you simply click on the now unlocked icon and plonk it where you like. To scale use the Slider in the General Tab.
  • You can Lock it at anytime by clicking the Padlock.

Step Six - When you want it to pop up.

  • Here you will decide when you want your lovely new icon to appear once all your conditions have been met. This is not why (Triggers) or how (Appearence and Sounds), this is when.

  • You can select one of the following options using the Shown dropdown box:

    • Always - always shows the Aura. You probably don't want this for an On Critical ability.
    • All - Only shows the Aura when every Trigger passes. For On Critical you will want this. This basically means that it will only show when you have crit when you've setup your Trigger.
    • Any - Only shows when any of the Triggers pass. You probably don't want this for On Critical. This is useful for tracking Innates through multiple stances.
    • None - Shows when no Triggers pass. Can be used to show an icon when a spell isn't on CD. Inverse of All. Can be used for On Critical if you want your Aura to disappear when you've crit. But why would you, why?!
    • On the General Tab you can choose which Action Set you want this Aura for. You can select more than one option.
  • Now you should have set when you want your Aura to show up (when), time to move onto Triggers. The why.

Step Seven - Why you want your Auras to pop up.

  • 1/3 of the way there, congratulations! Now we will setup why you want your Aura to do what you've told it to do, and in this case it is On Critical.

  • For Medics you want to use the Clear! section of this step instead of the On Crit which will immediately follow the On Crit section.

  • Click the Triggers Tab.

  • We will now go into three different Triggers you can use. You will need On Crit or Clear! (Medics only), but you can choose not to have, or have one of the other two.

    • On Crit - Everyone but Medics
      • Add a new Trigger by clicking the Add button at the top of the page.
      • Set the type to On Critical using the Type drop down.
      • Name this 'When Crit' using the Name textbox. You don't have to name it that if you don't want, you can call it Sparkle Pony if you like.
      • Set the behaviour to Pass using the Behaviour drop down. Pass is the default behaviour which means the Trigger succeeds when what you want to happen, happens and tells your Shown what to do.
        • Fail - means the Trigger will succeed if the conditions are not met. I.E if you can't use your On Critical ability. This is useful for tracking cooldowns and we will use this in a moment.
        • Ignore - means the Trigger will always succeed regardless of anything. This is useful if you want to display the cooldown times and charges without affecting if your Aura is shown or not. We will cover this after Fail if you want to use this.
    • Clear! - Howdy Medics
      • Currently we can't track on heal crits, which is an issue only for the Medic class. However, this Trigger will give you the exact Aura you're looking for. You won't notice the difference... Except that it works with heals!
      • Add a new Trigger by clicking the Add button at the top of the page.
      • Set the type to Buff using the Type drop down.
      • Select which buff you want to track using the middle textbox. Type Clear!
      • Set the unit to player by pressing the button in the middle of /am
      • Name this 'Clear!' using the Name textbox.
      • Set the behaviour to Pass using the Behaviour drop down. Pass is the default behaviour which means the Trigger succeeds when what you want to happen, happens and tells your Shown what to do.
  • Thats you're first trigger made! Good Job! Now you have a When Crit which will tell your Aura to pop up when you crit! But hold your horses, there is more if you want it. Keep reading if you also want your Aura to show up only when it is off cooldown or you want a cooldown timer. One of them is recommended.

    • Off Cooldown
      • Add a new Trigger by clicking the Add button at the top of the page.
      • Set the type to Cooldown using the Type drop down.
      • Name this 'Off Cooldown' using the Name textbox. Same as before, you can call it Rainbow if you like.
      • Set the behaviour to Fail using the Behaviour drop down. Fail will mean the Aura is hidden when the spell is on Cooldown. This means that even if you crit, your Aura will not pop up unless you have both crit and your ability is off cooldown.
  • Congratulations, you now have two Triggers! Keep reading if you would like a timer to let you know when your ability will come off cooldown instead of your 'Off Cooldown' Trigger. You don't have to have this if you don't want to. Ask yourself - Do you want your icon to not appear at all until it is ready to go? Or do you want your icon to appear when you crit with a timer telling you when you can cast it? If the former, stick with Off Cooldown, if the latter, read on and delete Off Cooldown.

    • Cooldown Timer
      • Add a new Trigger by clicking the Add button at the top of the page.
      • Set the type to Cooldown using the Type drop down.
      • Name this 'Cooldown Timer' using the Name textbox. You know the drill.
      • Set the behaviour to Ignore using the Behaviour drop down. Ignore means the Aura will be displayed when you crit, but if your ability is still on cooldown it gives you a timer to let you know when it's ready to use. Example: You've crit but Atomize still has 3 seconds left - your Aura will appear with a 3 second timer on it.
  • There you have it. That's your Triggers done (the most complicated part of AM). Aren't you a clever Aurin. Just a quick check list before you move onto the next step:

    • Have you got a Trigger called On Crit? or Clear?
    • Have you got a Trigger called Off Cooldown or Cooldown Timer if you've chosen to have one?
    • Have you saved your changes?
    • Are you ready?
  • If you answered Yes to all of the above, you are ready! Onwards!

Step Eight - How your Aura will look. Sounds, colours, graphics and animation. Get your sparkle and shine here.

  • You don't need this step if you don't want, your Aura is ready without. Continue reading if you would like to add a sound effect when your Aura appears, want to change its colour, icon or its animation.

    • Sound

      • Currently this doesn't work so well with On Critical if you use the Cooldown Timer Trigger, but it works well with the Off Cooldown Trigger. The reason for this is; if the buff overlaps the Trigger will not disappear, so you will not get another sound playing unless the Trigger disappears and reappears again. You can still use it with the Cooldown Timer but you have been warned that if you get a lucky streak of crits, you won't get a streak of sound!
      • To get a sound click the General Tab.
      • There is a list of Sounds at the bottom of the page. You can hear each sound when you click it to pick the one you like.
      • Found one? Good. You will automatically keep the one you've clicked (the one that is highlighted) when you save.
      • Don't want a sound anymore? You can remove the sound but selecting the selection called 'None' at the top of the sound list.
      • Remember to hit save to see the changes! Recommend /reloadui to ensure changes are saved to disc.
    • Icon

      • Don't want your spell icon but want something else? This is how you change it. AM has its own ever expanding list of icons ready to choose. Currently you cannot choose other spell icons in an easy way, we are looking into implementing this at a later date - You could finally pretend you're a Medic! But for now, moving on.
      • Click the Appearance Tab
      • Choose which icon you like best. The Aura does not automatically update when you select an icon, you need to save to see how it looks in game. Remember you can move and rescale at any time using Step Five!
      • Now you have two choices; Solid or Icon. They appear at the bottom of the page.
        • Solid - This will make whatever animation you have happen in a box and will not work within the confines of the icon.
        • Icon - This will make whatever animation you have to happen within the confines of the icon.
        • Icon is recommended.
      • Remember to hit save to see the changes! Recommend /reloadui to ensure changes are saved to disc.
    • Colour

      • Click the Appearence Tab.
      • At the top there is a colour button. Click that and pick your colour.
      • Want a bright pink tick? Well now you have it.
      • Remember to hit save to see the changes! Recommend /reloadui to ensure changes are saved to disc.
    • Animation

      • Currently we don't have an animation telling you how long your crit buff (e.g Clear!) has left, but that will be implemented shortly. For now, animation is of little use to On Critical unless you are using the Cooldown Timer Trigger.
      • But, want an overlay on your icon that tells you how long left of a cooldown you have? Click the Appearence Tab.
      • In the bottom right there are two buttons; Linear and Radial. Pick which you want.
        • Linear means the animation will travel down your icon.
        • Radial works like the GCD spiral in the base UI.
      • Remember to hit save to see the changes! Recommend /reloadui to ensure changes are saved to disc.

Step Nine - Save and relax. You've done it.

  • Well done, you've successfully made your On Critical Aura. If you would like to make another Aura, please select the section that most suits you or go back to Step One. Happy Staring!
