Net Management:

• Actually being proactive and not waiting for probs to happen

Methods:

• SNMP: Simple Net Management Protocol
• Versions 1 + 2 are not secure it is all clear text
• A community string is a password sent in clear text and is also public by default and it is used to access read-only resources
• V3 of SNMP supports encryption but a lot of legacy devices don't support V3
• Always change the defaults
• pfSense is supported
• When enabled it will listen to 161
• The device will send an SNMP trap to a management sys listening on UDP/162 for a more proactive response
