The easiest way to make config changes is through the Local server manager but it can also be done through the ethernet adapter options.

After setting up the network and saving the settings make sure to soft reset the machine and make sure that in cases like this the computer is discoverable by other computers on the network or it won't connect properly.

After everything is set up properly it's best to make sure everything works by pining a website in CMD or Powershell

In server manager to add features use the "manage" tab and select ad features

I then promoted the server and added a new forest and set the DSRM password (the DSRM password will be helpful if something goes wrong) after everything is set and installed the computer will reset. (the reset takes a long time)

When setting the PTR on the forward and reverse lookup zones make sure to uncheck and recheck the update PTR box

When creating a new user for yourself make sure to uncheck "user must change password on next login" unless it's needed

When pining a different computer you'll have to run an NSLookup command in order to ping it

To add a new user to a domain go to the control panel, select "Systems and security", select "System", select "system properties" on the sidebar, select "change", add the domain, put in the credentials of a user with permissions, and the user should be added once the machine is restarted.
