Context

  • Adding some diagnostic GSMF and completness plots here (rather than clogging up the Overleaf with some half-results, at least for now).
  • In the plots below, I have some diagnostics showing the orthogonal distance regression applied to our masses, as well as the impact these have on the GSMFs.
    • Note that I am presenting two ODR fits below. One fit uses all of the data, the other uses only the most local redshfit slice (out to z=0.05).
    • I'm doing these fits in 1d by the way (rather than 2D which we had discussed in the past).

ODR Diagnostics

  • Here are both 1-to-1 plots AND residuals. In the residuals panel, I'm dividing the data into 20 bins and adding the median and standard deviation as scatter points to get a better sense of the agreement.
    • It seems like in the 1-to-1 and the residual panels, using the global fit ODR seems to result in a slightly better level of agreement with the K-band mass measurements than the local fit, but probably the local fit is more well-justified. I don't think there's a large downside in picking one versus the other though, so probably best to use the local relation since that's what the K-band is calibrated to.

Impact on the GSMF

  • With the updated masses above, I can recompute both the 1/Vmax GSMF and the completeness estimates I had in the last meeting, along with adding the "peak" of each distribution as a heuristic.
