meeting 2025 04 23 n57 - JacobPilawa/TriaxSchwarzschild_wiki_5 GitHub Wiki

Context

  • This is very much a WORK IN PROGRESS but wanting to start pushing some stuff to the Github. This bullet should collect some of the information we discussed in the meeting yesterday, and some attempts at making the plots a little prettier.
  • Also collecting references to the environment table to better keep track of the black hole masses/distances/cosmological corrections when they need to be made.

References/Notes on Environment Table

  • Collecting some information on the environments here:

    • Still a bit of work in progress, for example I need to double check what types of distances are used for the galaxies NOT in Emily's table (to see if they need additioanl distance correction).
    • I've also very briefly started to look into H15's environment, but will need to be a bit careful here. H15 is not present in Crook+07's HDC or LDC catalogs, so I'll need to look into the deeper catalogs that Chung-Pei had suggested.
    • I've also got the M-sigma, M-rb, rb-rsoi data from Emily and am started to collect that into an "official" scaling relation plot for this paper.
  • Galaxies from Emily's Table. For these galaxies, the data is taken straight from her table into mine:

    • NGC708
    • NGC1600
    • NGC3842
    • NGC4486
    • NGC4649
    • NGC4889
    • NGC7619
  • Not in Emily's Table (hyperlinked named takes you straight to the paper with the BH reference):

    • NGC57
      • This work
    • NGC315
      • Our work
    • NGC1277
      • Unable to find an SBF distance measurement for this galaxy. There is a value of 69.2 from Jensen for NGC1278 which we could use.
      • Halo mass for this is from Simionescu+2011 (for Perseus cluster) rather than HDC or LDC.
    • NGC1407
      • Several SBF distances measurements exist for this, but they're in a bit of disagreement here. Here's a paper which has a summary fo these distances.
      • Halo mass from HDC (Crook+07)
    • NGC1550
      • Unable to find SBF distance for this galaxy.
      • Halo mass from HDC (Crook+07)
    • NGC3091
      • Unable to fnd SBF distance for this galaxy.
      • Halo mass from HDC (Crook+07)
    • NGC5419
      • Unable to find SBF distance for this galaxy.
      • Halo mass from HDC (Crook+07)
    • NGC5516
      • Unable to find SBF distance for this galaxy.
      • Halo mass from HDC (Crook+07)
      • Note that Rusli+13 (same link as N3091) had this BH > 3 billion which is why this is included.
  • H15 Information:

Some various attempts at different plots

  • Some attempts at the environment plot:
    • I think that we could probably move forward with the all black version. I think this looks much cleaner and making N57 red definitely draws a bit more attention to this point.

  • Also trying a few different versions of the radial moments plots. I sort of stopped half-way when creating the band versions of the plots since I wasn't able to get them looking like I had hoped:
    • It's a bit of a struggle to get a version where the model is "smoothed" or shows some type of "band" rather than the actual model points. Given this, I'm inclined to present the radial moments where GMOS and Mitchell are plotted separately. This at least allows a better look at the GMOS data.
