meeting 2024 04 17 n57 - JacobPilawa/TriaxSchwarzschild_wiki_5 GitHub Wiki
- Cleaning up/following up on some things from the last meeting:
- Computed environmental diagnositcs for NGC 708
- Replotted and verified zoomed versions of the GMOS data overlaid on the Mitchell data
- Finalized an enclosed mass plot with a comparsion to O'Sullivan's enclosed mass profile
- Follow up on V(R, Theta) [STILL TO COME, WORKING THROUGH NOW]
- I had left off NGC 708 from our list of SMBHs we've been analyzing, but I've computed the relevant details from the HDC catalog:
- Note that NGC 708 is in a large group, so I only need to go to the HDC to find all the members.
- I'm flattening NGC 708's group to the surface brightness fluctuation distance of 61.5 Mpc (from Jensen).
- Note that this distance is different from the distance used in the BH measurement paper of 68.48 Mpc.
N708: Here is a full list of all neighbors from the HDC without any cuts

- I've replotted and verified the GMOS and Mitchell maps overlaid on one another below. In the plots below, north is up and east is to the left.
- As a quick reminder, the photometric PA is 40.2 deg E of N, the +x axis of the GMOS data is 41.0 deg E of N, and the +x axis of the Mitchell data is 41.1 deg E of N.

There were a few things we wanted to look into for these V(R, Theta) plots; I'll start with the results running the script on the GMOS data alone.
-
Here are the results on GMOS alone for a few different binning schemes/messing around with the data binning by eye. It seems like there is a general agreement in the kinematic PA curves no matter how I do the binning (note that there are 215 GMOS bins)

- Next up, here's the result of running a similar test on the Mitchell data alone (41 bins total). I think that the relatively low number of kinematic bins here makes it difficult to detect a legitimate twist in these data. In particular, it looks like between ~6 arcsec to ~11 arcsec, the velocity behavior is a bit all over the place and thus the kinematic PA measurements in this region are quite noisy. I tried a number of different binning schemes/bin choices but wasn't able to get anything that was particularly well bevhaved in this region.

- Lastly, here are a few attempts at combining both the GMOS and Mitchell data. I tried to keep the ~5 bin trend from the GMOS results, but as you might imagine from the point above, it's difficult to bin the Mitchell data in a reasonable way:
