These new environmental plots are complete, I believe. Specifically, this has all black holes above 3e9 Msun from the following works:
- Saglia+16
- Thomas+16
- Thater+19
- Thater+22
- I chose to leave out 2 potential measurements, one of them being the 40 billion Msun H15A measurement and Neureiter+23 which claims to constrain total mass of BBH in formation.

I'm following the calculation for nu10 as described in MASSIVE VII:
- Cappellari+2011b computes this by taking the 10 nearest neighbors from the Atlas3D parent sample, which has all galaxies (including spirals) with M_K < -21.5; the equivalent completeness cutoff for MASSIVE would have to be M_K = -24.0; for compromise and ability to compare the two samples, Paper VII chose a cut of the MASSIVE parent sample of M_K < -23.0. This is what I am presenting here.
- Parent sample: Obtained from 2MRS catalog with magnitude cut of M_K < -23.0
- Worst case errors from Paper VII: something like ~0.5 dex in nu_10.
- For distances, we assume the high-density contrast distance first (Crook+2007), then LDC, and then redshift distance straight from 2MRS as a last resort. Note that this effectively flattens groups and generally result in higher nu10.
-
Note that:
- rho10 = Ngal / (4/3 * pi * r10^3) -- number density of galaxies in sphere of radius r10
- sig3 = Ngal / (pi * R3^2) -- surface density of galaxies in cylinder of radius r3 and height of +/- 300 km/s
