Special History
Saralain was founded by the great leader Gordaig, head of the 'five tribes' that migrated over the Gwaltho around 1360 T.A. The current Prince of Cardolan, on account of his recently renewed fealty to Arthedain and the brewing war in the north, was inclined to accept this numerous, albeit somewhat barbarous, people as his subjects, the Saralain becoming much needed feudatories and sources of manpower for him. The Saralain primarily settled the Ethir Gwaltho and lower Dol Caladir at that point. The Saralain would serve bravely in the wars against Angmar, but the Great Plague of 1636 would serve to break Cardolan. Already much depopulated by the Devastation of 1409 (this referring to Angmar's invasion of Cardolan and the Weather Hills, which saw much of it sacked and burned, though resettled eventually), much of the Dunedain population had already consolidated into northernly Cardolan, centering around the Barrow-downs. The Great Plague killed much who had remained, and those who survived often fled into Arthedain, where the plague was less ruinous. At this stage the Saralain were largely left to their own devices - also greatly stricken by the plague, the Saralaini kingship collapsed into a largely titular title, communication lost with their theoretical Dunedain overlords.
