Milestone 8 Openstack - ItsMmmike/SYS-350 GitHub Wiki

Overview

In this milestone, we wipe our vCenter and ESXi environment and install OpenStack (MicroStack) onto our Host Servers. OpenStack is an open source Cloud virtualization environment which we will be exploring in the next few milestone activities. However in this case, we will be using MicroStack which is a more minimal installation compared to the full OpenStack.

Reflection:

  • Overall I found this milestone to be an interesting learning experience as this is my first time working in an OpenStack/MicroStack environment.
  • I thought it was cool how you had to remote into each instance via SSH as this felt similar to how Amazon EC2 instances are managed.
  • One thing that I had a bit of trouble working with was the first instance deployment as it took some time to boot up. I wasn't used to working with VMs in the MicroStack Environment, however this was resolved after waiting for the instance to initialize a bit more.
