Guide for the Wasteland - ItsBrendo/the-nuclear-wasteland GitHub Wiki
Getting started in The Nuclear Wasteland can be tough. Don't worry, This guide is here to help!
GETTING STARTED
First of all, You're going to find your self in a wasteland. Full of radiation, yeah you heard me right. You're going to want to get a small base set up as soon as you can. The best bet would be to cut down a few trees around you and make some basic tools. But be careful when mining certain items, as items such as Dead Logs, Dead Leaves & Dried Sand all have radiation. You can see exactly how much it's giving you by opening your inventory and hovering over the item. After you have gathered some basic items and built your self a base you can get started on gathering some basic materials.
TIP: You can see all of the items with radiation or that prevent it by searching for Radiation in JEI (Just Enough Items)!
MINING AND WHAT TO LOOK FOR
So you've built yourself a base, got some basic tools and now you think you're ready to venture deep into the caves? Alright. Grab some torches, A lot of them and make sure to use the Waypoint Manager to make a Waypoint at your base. When you venture down the new caves for the first time, You're going to notice a few things.. The caves are HUGE and very different from vanilla caves, It's much easier to get lost in these caves. There is also a LOT more ore available for you to mine. Now, don't be in a hurry to venture down to the very bottom in a hurry. You're going to want to focus on getting Iron , Lead, Osmium & Coal. After you have a LOT of those materials, head back up to the surface. Find some cows and start a small cow farm.
EXPLORING AND WHAT TO LOOR FOR
While exploring, you're going to also want to look out for some basic things such as Sheep and Villages, The sheep are great for well.. wool for beds and villages may contain a blacksmith or an Immersive Engineering House. If you happen to come across the Immersive Engineering house, I suggest you grab the Hammer just above the door as you will need it for Basic Machines. While walking around, you should also be breaking some of the Desert Grass and Dead Grass. Sugarcane and other various seeds come from them, so they're quite useful.
ENTERING THE NETHER
So you've got quite a lot a materials by now, You're next step will be to enter the nether, Scary, I know.. It's all good though! Before you do, you're going to want to make a basic set of armour. Iron should be enough, as well as Iron Sword.. Head in and take out the Blazes or Foxhounds so you can get yourself some blaze powder. Get yourself at least 10 blaze powder and also some netherrack and then head back to the wasteland.. IF you haven't already gather some clay, you'll probably want to get about 4-5 stacks worth, It's needed a bunch early game.
BASIC MACHINERY AND POWER
So you've got just about everything required to make your first machine and multi-blocks, as well as a basic windmill from Immersive Engineering! You're going to want to make 27x Coke Bricks and 27x Blast Bricks, Form each stack into a 3x3x3 and then right click it with the hammer you got earlier. The multi-block you created with the Coke Bricks is called a Coke Oven and the one with the Blast Bricks is called a Blast Furnace. The Coke Oven generates Coal Coke and Creosote Oil, The Blast Furnace makes Steel using the Coal Coke and Iron Ingots, as well as Slag as a byproduct. Now that you have some basic multi-blocks setup, we can move towards power and your first mekanism machine! You're going to want to craft enough Treated Wood for a IE Windmill. While you're getting enough Creosote Oil for the Wood, Go get started on making a Kinetic Dynamo, LV Wire Coil's & LV Wire Connector's.
