📣🏃📣 Islandora Theme Sprint - October 2026 📣🏃📣

During the Islandora camps at Vassar College and Simon Fraser University (Oct 20 - 30), we're running an async sprint to get Islandora DXPR -- a modern, accessible theme for Islandora -- to its 1.0.0 release. When 1.0.0 is released, the theme will become the default theme in the Islandora Starter Site. Go to the #sprint channel in the Islandora Slack to join and ask questions.

We will be live streaming the camps, including the sprints. Check our calendar for times and Zoom links.

We need people with all kinds of skills, and most tasks don't need any code:

• Designers: mock up the homepage, collection pages, book and newspaper pages, audio and video pages, and error pages.
• Documenters: write and test the "try it locally" quickstart, the guide for moving an existing site to the new theme, and a no-code customization guide.
• Accessibility experts: keyboard-only and screen reader audits (NVDA and VoiceOver), color contrast checks, and automated scans.
• Testers: click through the example site on your browser and phone, try every kind of content and the search pages, and report anything that looks wrong.
• Coders: review the Starter Site changes, check the upgrade path from earlier versions, and help reduce the patches the new theme currently depends on.

How to join

Look at the sprint board: github.com/orgs/Islandora/projects/16. The [Ready + unassigned] view lists tasks anyone can pick up, and the [Good first issues] or [By track] views are a good places to start.Assign yourself to an issue. If GitHub won't let you, comment "taking this" and we'll assign you.Post progress, screenshots, and questions in #sprint. Work whenever suits you; there are no meetings. Feel free to start any time.
