Firmware: RSSI - ImpulseRC/OSD GitHub Wiki

Introduction

ImpulseOSD supports various RSSI sources including FrSky, CRSF and analog RSSI. RSSI values can be displayed as a bar icon, percentage (CRSF) or in dB (FrSky). Some configuration is necessary to get RSSI into ImpulseOSD which is explained in three steps below.

NEW: Starting with KISS FC version 1.3RC39b and ImpulseOSD V50.14 you now longer have to configure anything - RSSI will be pulled automatically through the KISS FC!!! Note at CRSF users: Your CRSF TX must be on V2.93 or higher for this to work!

Step 1: Configuring your Radio, Receiver or Analog input

Besides configuration on ImpulseOSD, you must configure your Radio or Receiver to transmit RSSI values on a free AUX channel. There are several manuals written by 3rd parties how to do this:

  • FrSky: GETTING RSSI IN PPM/SBUS CHANNEL WITH TARANIS. Do not change the weight and offset as suggested, leave weight at 100 and offset at 0.
  • CRSF: Read the section "Display LQ in Taranis OpenTX" in LQ AND RSSI IN TBS CROSSFIRE. All you need to do is to put your LQ (not RSSI or LQ/RSSI!!!) on a free AUX channel - rest is configured in ImpulseOSD
  • Analog RSSI Solder your analog RSSI output from your receiver to the RSSI pad of your ImpulseOSD hardware (if available)

Step 2: Configure ImpulseOSD to receive the RSSI output from your Radio, Receiver or Analog input

Enter the menu (yaw left while disarmed for more than two seconds), go to SETUP and then RSSI

  • RSSI PRESET: Select FRSKY or CRSF=LQ if you are using either. Otherwise select CUSTOM.
  • RSSI CHANNEL: Select the AUX channel that you previously configured in Step 1. You can double check if you selected the correct channel by watching RSSI RAW on the bottom of the screen. BF users who have setup RSSI in their BF Configurator can also select TELEMETRY. If you have analog RSSI connected, select RSSI PAD.
  • RSSI MIN PPM: Do not change this value if you are using either FRSKY or CRSF=LQ presets or you know what you are doing! If you are using RSSI PAD and the rssi pad on your ImpulseOSD hardware adjust the minimum PPM value.
  • RSSI MAX PPM: Do not change this value if you are using either FRSKY or CRSF=LQ presets or you know what you are doing! If you are using RSSI PAD and the rssi pad on your ImpulseOSD hardware adjust the maximum PPM value.
  • RSSI WARNING: Do not change this value if you are using either FRSKY or CRSF=LQ presets or you know what you are doing! If you are using RSSI PAD and the rssi pad on your ImpulseOSD hardware adjust the warning percentage.
  • SAVE+EXIT: Save all changes (and also changes made in other menus except the VTX menu) and exit the menu.
  • BACK: Go back to the previous menu. Changes are not discarded, but they are not saved until you exit with SAVE+EXIT from any menu.

Step 3: Ensure that the RSSI OSD item/label is active

Enter the menu (yaw left while disarmed for more than two seconds), go to SETUP and then BASIC SETUP. Got to SET ITEMS and make sure the RSSI item is turned on. You can move it by going back to the BASIC SETUP MENU and then select MOVE ITEMS. Don't forget to select SAVE+EXIT so your settings are not lost when your power cycle!
