Problem, Solution, Revenue model and Value proposition

Problem description:

At Uniandes students do not have an organized way to discover, create, and join student organizations or informal communities. From the information we gathered from the interviews, normally students can find the information across Instagram, WhatsApp or by word of mouth, and this normally only reach students that already are part of a network. This makes discovering new groups harder than it should be, and the problem is not the lack of groups, is the lack of a centralized place where students can find and know about groups before joining them.

Solution description:

SENECApp is a mobile application that is a centralized platform where the students communities can be discovered, created and sustained. There are 3 aspects we want to have:

  • Discover: Students write what are their interests and the app proposes groups, where they can see the group's activity, frequency of meetings and if there is a level of expertise required.
  • Create: Students can publish an interest and do polls to see how many people would be interested in joining.
  • Sustain: Group leaders can have metrics, can publish events and have backup leaders so that the consistency of the group maintains even if there are changes. The recommendations of the groups and events feeds vary between the student's interest, program and schedule, so that not everyone have the same lists. We can use the location so show nearby events and have notifications for events.

Revenue Model

SENECApp would use a subscription model. The application would be free for students, while the university or other educational institutions could pay a subscription to provide the service to their community.

This model fits the purpose of SENECApp because the main users are students looking for communities, groups, and activities inside the university. Charging students could reduce their interest in using the app, especially because there are already free alternatives such as WhatsApp, Instagram, or university social media pages.

The subscription paid by the institution could help cover the costs of maintaining the application, backend services, storage, analytics, and future improvements. In return, the university would have a tool that helps students connect with each other and understand how student communities are being created and used.

Value Proposition

SENECApp helps university students discover, create, and grow student communities in one place.

Students who want to join a group can easily find communities based on their interests instead of depending on scattered information from social media, chats, or word of mouth. Students who want to create a new group can also share their idea, find people with similar interests, and measure interest before spending time on a formal registration process.

Unlike alternatives such as WhatsApp groups, Instagram pages, or informal messages between students, SENECApp brings the discovery and creation of university communities into one dedicated platform. This makes groups easier to find, helps new initiatives become visible, and gives students a simpler way to connect with people who share their interests.
