Purpose: To understand the motivation behind recycling efforts. -
Question: Is it easy to find the type of waste on the internet? (On the spot)
Purpose: To assess the difficulty in finding information about waste classification online.
3. Context: Uncertainty in Waste Classification
Scenario: Suppose you are at home and have a waste item you don't know how to classify. You search on the internet but are unsure if the classification is correct.
Purpose: To gather data on the worst-case scenario in waste classification.
-
Question: What do you do next?
Purpose: To identify actions taken in the worst-case scenario. -

Purpose: To explore the perception of unique recycling patterns. -
Question: For example, if you have a mattress or a microwave as waste, where do you take them?
Purpose: To learn what people do with difficult-to-classify waste.
Additional Information
-

Interviewer: Juan Manuel Pérez S Interviewee: Camila Robayo Herrera
-
Question: What is happening in the image?
Response: There is accumulated waste in the street. -
Question: How do you think this happened?

Question: Why do you think this happened?
Response: This happened because there is no citizen consciousness about the environment. -
Question: Who do you think is responsible?
Response: All of us are responsible.
Context: Waste Classification at Home
-
Question: What do you do next?
Response: I ask my mom or search on the internet with my phone. -
Question: How do you search to know the type of waste?
Response: I use keywords and sometimes search for the name of the product. -
Question: Why do you search where the garbage goes?
Response: I like to classify waste and also get scolded if I classify it wrong at home. -
Question: Is it easy to find the type of waste on the internet?
Response: Yes, most of the time it is easy to find the type of waste.
Context: Uncertainty in Waste Classification
-
Question: What do you do next?
Response: I use my common sense and place the garbage where I think it goes. -
Question: How often does this situation happen to you?
Response: Very few times. -
Question: Why do you think it isn’t very common?
Response: Because most of the time I rely on my recycling patterns. -
Question: Do you think everyone has the same recycling patterns as you do?
Response: No, sometimes when I visit friends' houses, they don’t classify waste correctly. -
Question: For example, if you have a mattress or a microwave as waste, where do you take them?
Response: Normally, we take mattresses to foundations. For microwaves, some shopping malls have designated spaces for this type of waste.
Additional Information
-
Question: Based on what you’ve said, what do you think of an identifier of waste that uses your camera to help you reduce time in classification?
Response: It is interesting because for those cases where it is difficult to know what materials are in my waste, it would help with my investigation. -
Question: What do you think of crafting items by reusing waste?
Response: I am not the type of person who likes to reuse waste to craft DIY items.
