Take away
Initial Ye is shown to have a significant impact on What nuclei are produced in a Core Collapse Supernova. The different abundance distributions for every simulation can be found in the movies page. Here we have only abundance distributions for Ye in the range of values found in literature[1,4,10]. The color scheme is constant throughout so the plot below does not have the best color scheme.
As you become more extreme in either direction from Ye , you produce higher A and Z value nuclei. The higher density of either proton or neutrons allow for a faster capture rate, while the presence of the other nucleon allows for the bypass of waiting points. Below a Ye 0f 0.5 you get pathways that are more neutron rich. The Ye below 0.3 allows for full r-process pathway up into the A~200. This is due to the neutron not interacting with the coulomb force and extreme densities that are not realistic. The unrealistic Ye=0.9 also created high A values but was limited due to the fact that protons are charged. These simulations can be watched on the movie page.
The change in Ye over time is different for different preset Ye values. Above you can see that the Ye values have more drastic changes over time when starting further away from 0.5, with the exception of 0.9. This is due to many things, free neutrons being unstable, nucleons being trapped in the formation of nuclei and the neutrinos luminosity ratios and energy ratios.
Future Directions
We had originally intended to go from Ye 0.1 to 0.9 in steps of 0.05 but decided to reduce the range and increase the steps due to time constrains. Future work could attempt our original range with 0.05 steps or smaller for better resolution. We had also intended to set 'nuflag=5' in the parameter file to incorporate both neutral and charged particle neutrino interaction but discovered that this had not been properly implemented. Future studies could fix nuflag and study the full range of reactions we had originally intended.
Being on a lake, yes it should be lake sickness, though it does not roll off the tongue as well.. Also , apparently lake sickness is a thing with algae or other lifeforms.....(for philip)
